If you've met me at a conference you probably know that I don't carry business cards. How odd is that? Why would an agent not carry business cards? I'm not kidding when I tell conferees I don't have cards. It's not like I have a secret stash for special people. I simply don't have cards at all.

Feeling a little weary of the noise and speed in the world,. Wishing for some days curled up, listening to a good storyteller.

Yes, indeed.

Is art that doesn't cost us, worthwhile?
I guess one point we can take from my last post is that just because something is hard doesn’t mean it’s not what we’re supposed to do. Sometimes things are hard and we’re supposed to struggle through. Sometimes we’re supposed to keep our eyes on the goal and keep

The happiest writers love to work the soil of the story world, and they trust God to send the rain and bring the increase.
It’s a lot like farming, this writing business. Farmers don’t get paid until long after they’ve planted the seed. They clear the field, they till the soil. No one pays them for that. They plant the seed. They water it. They cover the small plant when a late frost comes.

My thoughts on Black Friday, Udemy, and greed. Kind of.
Black Friday Black Friday is Udemy’s biggest sale of the year, I’m told. I’ve not been here an entire year yet, so I have to go on what others are saying. And let me tell you, there is a lot of excitement in the instructors’ ...

It feels like facing a storm of disapproval, sometimes, but writing is worth doing.
Yesterday I talked about my take on writing from my somewhat warped view of God’s calling on Christians: I had the idea that since writing was so much fun I should give it up. I realize that many of you blog readers aren’t Christians. But I wrote that post because I think

Press on, press on, press on. It's a quality of life issue. Quitting may feel safe, but is that really how you want to live?
Years ago a friend flew to Alaska to visit me. I took him up to Denali and dropped him off to camp for several days. I’d go back and get him after I got off work on Saturday. Saturday, I was about three-quarters of the way up to Denali, when I realized
