+Faraday Future, the start-up Chinese EV maker that has been compared to Tesla Motors, at the 2016 CES in Las Vegas on January 5 unveiled its first concept vehicle that company executives called “a testbed for vehicles we’re working on.”
Many observers at the CES said the front of Faraday Future's new FFZero1 concept, with its large tunnels, is the car's cleanest side. For more related images, click on the small arrow at the upper right corner of this image. Image: FF_CES_Racecar_1440x1440_Interior_01_Full.jpg ...

There’s been a push to wean vehicles from petroleum but, according to an ExxonMobil researcher, fossil fuels will continue to power the transportation field for the next few decades, largely due to growth in underdeveloped countries. What does this growth really mean for global energy consumption?
SAE Congress Keynote Tahmid Mizan, ExxonMobil, discussed long-term view of global energy consumption and supply during his talk, “The Outlook for Energy: A View to 2040.”

Obviously, traffic gridlock, accident fatalities, and vehicle emissions are not good things. Data shows that in 2013, Los Angeles drivers spent 90 hours stuck in traffic. That same year there were 33,000 fatalities on U.S roads. Even vehicle emissions caused death. The underlying challenge for the auto industry is to develop and use technologies to remedy these issues.
Connected vehicles have the potential to diminish traffic congestion, accidents, emissions. Use and demand of software and access to the Internet continues to increase. Helmut Matschi, Continental, believes that tomorrow’s vehicle will be part of the Internet of Everything (IoE).

With the ever-increasing demand for vehicles that produce less harmful emissions and get better gas mileage, automotive OEMs are constantly innovating in their development of hybrid/electric powertrains. But with this innovation comes challenges. In this webcast, we will cover some of the technical differences in these powertrains that require a new hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test strategy in order to see accurate and useful test results, while also giving an example of how Subaru did exactly this.

Speaker is Noah Reding, Senior Product Manager, Systems and Applications, +National Instruments.

Many of today’s constantly connected consumers balk at spending a few hours without Web access. Commercial airlines are responding by forging links with satellite providers that give flyers the same capabilities they have on the ground. But there are complications to overcome for the airlines and providers.

Conventional 3D printers create objects layer-by-layer from the bottom up, which can be a challenge when printing parts with enclosed electronics and overhanging or protruding features. +Purdue University's new system called RevoMaker not only reduces the need for supporting structures, but also introduces a new technique for multi-directional printing.
A new system developed by Purdue allows a 3D printer to produce functioning products with enclosed electronic and motorized components and customized devices, for example a computer mouse molded to a user's hand. The new system has been demonstrated by creating items with complex shapes, ...
