Vehicle OEMs have pledged to make automatic emergency braking (AEB) a standard feature by 2022, a move that is likely to alter electronic architectures and increase collaboration between module suppliers. Twenty automakers recently teamed up with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety to set voluntary programs to move emergency braking from a luxury option to mainstream vehicles over the next few years.

Today's top cars include up to 100 electronic control units (ECUs) that are connected via various communication bus systems. The complexity of these large distributed and interconnected systems is a major challenge for developing and testing the embedded software in these vehicle ECUs. HIL simulation is an integral part in the embedded software development process for testing control functions.

Take our 2-minute quiz to find out how much you know – and what you might be missing. After the quiz, download the free +dSPACE GmbH white paper, “The Technology for Testing Electronic Controls in Vehicle Engineering” and you’ll be entered to win a $100 gift card.
