And so, over the weekend I implemented the support for overlayfs in genkernel-next (v63) and switched all +Sabayon images from aufs2 to it.

This means that any vanilla kernel is now able to boot +Sabayon , which means that I can automate the process of building kernel images for the distro even more.

The new installer will go live in Sabayon 14.06 and consists of the a port of the Fedora 20 Anaconda installer.

We have cool things like improved encryption support, improved standard partitions support (you can opt-out from LVM more easily now), BTRFS volumes support, simplified text install, and much more.

My weekend project is porting a new Anaconda Installer snapshot (v20.26, Fedora 20) to +Sabayon (and potentially Gentoo, but I'm lazy). I'm more or less halfway through. The good news is that both +Sabayon and +Fedora Project use systemd and GRUB2 (on intel arch) among other things, which makes the porting less painful.

You would be surprised to see how modular Anaconda is, besides some residual Redhat-ism (like /etc/sysconfig config files and requiring rpm headers at build time)

I made the download page point straight to monthly images (and also made a script that scrapes the mirrors and updates the release information...).
Having a distro ran 99% by robots is so fun.

Yesterday I took this pic but I forgot to share it. Parallel Entropy in action. Well, this is just the first chunk of improvements. I plan to eventually kill the remnants of the Big Entropy Lock during the next iteration and perhaps also have a look at parallel execution of single transaction (toposorted) queues.
Now it's time to wake up the translators at Transifex...

Simplest way to setup a persistent /home directory.
Starting from Sabayon 13.12, or any other Sabayon release featuring >=app-misc/sabayon-live-10, it's very easy to setup a persistent ${HOME} directory, or better, a persistent /home (thus, not just /home/sabayonuser). You only need to setup a filesystem on any partition you like, featuring the ...

One simple use case for you +David Belliveau: you want to use Sabayon in Media Center mode (using XBMC, no installation required) and you want to make sure that your settings will persist across reboots.

SolydX is based on and syncs with Debian Testing every quarter and supports 32bit, so as long as Debian supports your hardware, it will continue to work. They do additional testing to make sure that the update is sound before they release the update pack every quarter.

We are covered as well.

Advisory for Heartbleed, just in case you have missed it (not sure how that might be possible though).

The parallel equo update alone is so worth it. Improved Python3 support will be nice too (I've been using portage for it until now.)

You thought that there would be no more sabayon-limbo updates this week? WRONG

You have new kernels (3.4.69, 3.10.19, 3.11.9) to play with.
One Click Update your distro with no mercy!
