Continuing the tradition, stunning fresh flowers can be seen on board. During Royal service a ‘Yottie’, a Royal Steward, would act as chief flower arranger.

Did You Know that on this day in 1954, Britannia was commissioned into the Royal Navy?

This was voted family favorite, on our recent trip to Scotland. Although the siege tunnel at St Andrews Castle came a close second! I always remember thinking how cool this yacht was when I was a kid, and it was almost evocative walking around on board. Apart from the grand royal apartments and bedrooms etc. there is the fascinating below deck working areas. We are always talking about wombats, so the kids were delighted at the mention of Wombat Tennis. Will this be in the Olympics next time around?

There was so much to see here! There are 29 audio-cued points. The tea room is actually after you see #11, not #7. Rich history, albeit very little Scottish, but very nice to see nonetheless. They sell fudge in the center which will give you a farthing of a free sample but the ordering is slow so you can just as well skip it since it is also available in the gift shop. The tea room had gluten free sandwiches and gluten free soup (Cullen skink ftw). It was so much we had to wrap up half and take it home. Very good, very hearty, very warm.

A wonderful experience. After getting in, it's hard to believe you are on a ship. It is luxurious and royal as well known. It is regularly kept clean and is no longer in a working condition. The last journey was made in 1997 by Britannia. It is worth a visit. Alongside is the Portobello beach, which is a famous tourist attraction as well.

Many thanks for visiting. We are thrilled that you had a wonderful visit. Our Housekeeping and Maintenance team work incredibly hard to ensure that Britannia is kept to the same standards as when in service.

Loved the experience. Although I initially thought I wouldn't use the audio guides, they were really excellent. The Yacht is beautifully maintained and you get a true sense of what it must have been like to travel on her. We also loved the 'count the corgies' game, and entered into it enthusiastically - we now have Britannia corgi of our own, having rescued one from the gift shop and given him a loving home back in Wales. If I had to pick a highlight of our visit, I'd probably go for having a glass of Champagne in the tea room/Royal Deck - although just sitting in the Captain's chair seeing what he would have seen out of the front window was great, too! It was a very special couple of hours, and an attraction I'd recommend to any visitors to Edinburgh. I'm very glad Britannia ended up in her rightful home, where she was built. The Trust does a wonderful job.

The Royal Yacht Britannia is an interesting place to visit, especially for those interested in maritime history and shipboard life. For my personal taste, the guided tour was a little too slanted towards the royalist perspective, but that is of course to be expected when visiting a vessel so closely tied to the royal family. The audio tour, such as it is, is well put together though, and available in several languages (including Swedish). Practically the entire ship is included in the tour, so one is treated to royal and crew quarters alike. Even the engine room is on display, and stands as a shining example of a clean-as-a-whistle technical showpiece.

Thank you for your review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your audio guided tour which is indeed available in 27 languages over the five decks.

Interesting and reasonably priced too. Cost us £13 per head using a discount from a promotional leaflet. Easy to get to by public transport and good signage. Self tour with audio device which contained lots of information. Popular so some queuing inevitable but this is broken up due to lots of photographs and information boards while queuing. Tea room was too busy for us so we didn't try it but otherwise highly recommended.

Thank you for visiting Britannia. It's great to hear that you found the tour to be interesting and good value for money. For the information during peak holidays we recommend either pre-booking your tickets or visiting early in the morning or after 2pm. Thanks again for your review.

Well worth the visit, even though I am against the whole royalty business... Showing off how they lived on the backs of the poor...
