Why do facilities people think "open plan" will enhance our working lives? A wall-less sea of desks creates distractions, increases the use of email and wrecks the human-to-human interaction that boosts productivity.

I know that sounds counter-intuitive, but studies are starting to show "open plan" is not the best environment for creative, productive, less stressful work environments.

For decades, companies have ghosted their employees. People have turned up only to be told they've no longer got a job and would they please leave their kit on the way out.

With changes in the way we communicate, a low unemployment rate and a fundamental breakdown in trust, it seems employees are turning the tables. From not attending interviews to failing to show up for work, employees are increasingly ghosting employers.

20 years ago I wrote a story where a car was involved in an accident. It notified police, ambulance and insurance companies, feeding all kinds of data to the organisations that needed it.

Honda and Toyota have almost made it a reality.
