A remote indigenous community near Uluru has threatened to "close the rock" if their voices aren't heard and people continue to live in poverty. The Northern Territory royal commission into juvenile justice has visited Mutitjulu, a small community where the Intervention started and is still felt to this day. The Anangu people who live by Australia's most iconic landmark told the inquiry the NT and federal governments have neglected their community and children are denied basic housing, plumbing, food and healthcare.

Introduction

Ron Mader is a professional speaker, communication coach and brave journalist, featured in American Environmental Leaders.

Ron's work catalyzes meaningful conversation and action about environmental conservation, ecotourism, responsible travel and peacemaking. His professional focus on ecotourism and responsible travel go back to research conducted in Costa Rica in 1989. In 1994 Ron launched Planeta.com, the web's first site dedicated to ecotourism and responsible travel.

Ron has facilitated numerous seminars online and in the natural world and has won many awards, including recognition from the Mexican government for exemplary coverage of Mexico. Presidents Fox and Zedillo presented Ron with the Lente de Plata Award in 1999 and 2002. In 2010 he won the Innovation Award from the International Ecotourism Society.

Ron is also the ecotourism and responsible travel contributing editor for Transitions Abroad.

Working in Oaxaca, Mexico, Ron has collaborated in the development of the local dialogue and an annual tourism fair held since 2001. Ron is one of the founders of the Zinacantli Rugby Club.
