Check out the e-book that +Ethan Gelber of +The Travel Word edited.

"Drawing on the combined expertise of two dozen leading voices advocating for travel that makes a difference, it is a guide for compassionate people seeking the ultimate adventure – one guided as much by the good you give as the good you get."

Adventures Less Ordinary: Getting an Accurate Snapshot of Travel Generosity (http://www.thetravelword.com/2014/12/15/adventures-less-ordinary-travel-generosity/)

The amazing Mammatus Clouds, their name derives from the Latin word "mamma", meaning udder or breast (for fairly obvious reasons!).

Who's coming to tomorrow's Hangout?

This we all know: Travel changes people. If nothing else, it broadens their horizons, and introduces them to new cultures, languages and ideas. Better yet, it helps them to see the world through other people's eyes, fundamentally alters the way they engage with… well, with everything, including themselves.

In anticipation of the New York Travel Festival ( #NYTF , more about that below), a group of leading scholars, sustainability advocates and travel-adventure planners/guides/specialists is coming together for a Google+ Hangout on Air to discuss and explore the kind of travel that transforms.

The panelists are:

* Dr. +Kelly Bricker -- Chair, Global Sustainable Tourism Council (http://www.gstcouncil.org); Chair, +The International Ecotourism Society (TIES) (http://www.ecotourism.org/); Associate Professor, Sustainable Tourism Management, University of Utah

* Ian OSullivan -- Founder, +Alternative Escapes

* +Anna Pollock -- Founder, Conscious Travel (http://conscious.travel)

* Susan Ross -- Professor, Recreation Therapy, San Jose State University; Author (http://www.suzyross.com)

* moderator: +Ethan Gelber -- Founder/Editor, +The Travel Word (http://www.thetravelword.com)

Some of the topics likely to be tackled:

* the "eco-cultural" mindset: how the desire for social responsibility, ecological sustainability, cultural preservation and experiential authenticity is changing they way people think about travel.

* what leads to transformation: the role of intention, self-awareness and social consciousness through cultural immersion that leads to transformation.

* the conditions for transformative travel: how to move toward designing and planning a life-changing adventure that can have a positive impact on the world.

This panel has come together in conjunction with the New York Travel Festival and in anticipation of a second panel that will discuss similar topics.

The +New York Travel Festival (NY Trav Fest) is a reinvention of the concept of the consumer travel show. Designed for tech-savvy, immersive travelers, it is more than the standard glossy brochures and long waits at vendor booths typical of other shows. Instead, you get exactly what you need: direct access to and advice from the experts.

This includes a panel, called The Science Behind Transformative Travel (see http://sched.co/1fVGYkK), that carryies on the discussion of this Hangout. It will feature +Joe Diaz (Co-founder, +AFAR Media), +Mark Lakin (Co-founder, +Epic Road), Dr. Lynn Minnaert (Assistant Professor, New York University’s Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Management) and Ian OSullivan (Founder, Alternative Escapes), moderated by +Gabi Logan. This panel takes place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 26.

Scheduled for the weekend of April 26-27, the NY Trav Fest is hosting many panels, interactive discussions and hands-on workshops dealing with the kinds of hot-button travel topics and trends about which attendees are eager to learn more.

The New York City-based festival commences at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, at Bohemian National Hall (321 East 73rd Street, between 1st and 2nd avenues in Manhattan) and continues on Sunday, April 27, at Hostelling International - New York (891 Amsterdam Avenue, at 104th Street in Manhattan).
This Hangout On Air is hosted by New York Travel Festival (NY Trav Fest). The live video broadcast will begin soon.

This 3D pen lets you draw in the air!

The world's smallest 3D pen can draw solid lines out of thin air. You will soon be able to draw your own physical objects with the help of the Lix 3D pen. It launched just three days ago on Kickstarter and they have already raised 15 times their funding goal (and it's still growing).

The LIX 3D printing pen functions similarly to 3D printers. It melts and cools colored plastic, letting you create rigid and freestanding structures. Lix has a hot-end nozzle that is power supplied from a USB 3.0 port. The plastic filament ABS/PLA is introduced into the upper extremity of Lix Pen. The filament goes through a patented mechanism while moving through the pen, finally reaching the hot-end nozzle which melts and cools it down. With this light-weight, engineered pen, these structures can be formed in any imaginable shape.
