The process of manually designing machine learning models is difficult because the search space of all possible models can be combinatorially large — a typical 10-layer network can have ~10^10 candidate networks! To make designing machine learning models much more accessible, we’ve been exploring ways to automate the design of machine learning models with an approach we call "AutoML". Learn more, below.

The field of Information Retrieval actively explores ways to allow users to more efficiently find, navigate and consume online discussions, there is a lack of shared datasets to aid in understanding these discussions a bit better. To aid researchers in this space, we are releasing the Coarse Discourse dataset, the largest dataset of annotated online discussions to date. Learn more about the dataset on the Google Research blog, below.

Neural networks are powerful and flexible models that work well for many difficult learning tasks in image, speech and natural language understanding. However, designing these networks is difficult and time intensive. Can neural networks be used to design other neural network architectures quickly and efficiently? In "Neural Architecture Search with Reinforcement Learning" (goo.gl/drVqFT), Google Brain Resident (g.co/brain) Barret Zoph and Research Scientist Quoc Le explore the possibility. #ICLR2017
