I have been to many places, taking photographs of its people and everything that is happening in the area. As a photojournalist, it is my job to document people's lives thru pictures.
I want to record history. I want to be there when things happen. I want to be part of history. Thru what I see via the viewfinder of my camera.
I want change to happen. Thru the photos I make. I want the photos to affect people. To better their lives.
This is what I see. This is my angle. This is me.
I want people to move. To act. As their lives are documented thru this visual medium.
But sometimes I ask when do I stop pressing the shutter button?
Are we really making changes that can ripple thru other people's lives?
When do I stop taking photos and begin to be part of the photo? Or am I already part of it?
With the advent and ubiquitousness of digital photography, anyone can feel and act like a photographer. But I dare ask you what your purpose is? I am no holier than thou. This question I ask myself many times.
After all I still believe that I am only a messenger. That the people in front of the camera are the most important element compared to those behind it. That your story is more important than mine.
Are we making changes?
Photojournalism is a personal journey for me.
Maybe I have been asking the wrong question all this time. Every picture created is an encounter with a stranger. For thru this that I meet all of you.
A new experience.
For it is thru taking photographs of other people that I have been making changes. To myself. That every release of the shutter, a new picture is created also of me.
We leave a shadow to the places and people we have shot. But they leave and reflect more of the light to us.
