While the art of magic is ancient, modern day cyber criminals use its traits of manipulation, misdirection and deception to create an illusion of legitimacy, which aims to trick users into revealing sensitive information. Phishing is the term used to describe these efforts to bait victims into revealing usernames, passwords, birthdates, email addresses, phone numbers etc. Criminals then use this information to access other online accounts or to start fraudulent transactions. They go to great lengths to impersonate legitimate companies and unless users are paying very close attention, they can fail to spot very subtle changes. Unlike magic, phishing does not defy rational explanation - you can take steps to protect your corporate network by ensuring your staff know what to look out for and cyber security procedures you can put in place to create a robust defence. Microsoft will officially end its support for Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 on 14th January 2020. Although 2020 seems like a far off land at the moment, updating IT infrastructure is a large task and we advise you start to put plans in place now for a smooth transition. You will want to make sure your company is seamlessly protected during this changeover and your infrastructure remains secure. When a server reaches end of life and is no longer supported, Microsoft will no longer offer any type of support for the operating system which means:
• No security files are released and security gaps will no longer be plugged by software updates. This leaves the system vulnerable to security threats and will put your business data and networks at risk.
• No new features will be released and you will eventually start to miss out on new features which will impact on the productivity of your business. The new virtualisation features introduced in Hyper-V on the updated Winders Server 2012 and R2 systems alone may warrant an upgrade.
• You could also find that you are no longer complying with regulatory standards which require all IT products to be supported.

It is worth speaking to your IT company now to establish a migration strategy. We are will be guiding all of our IT support customers across Glasgow, Edinburgh and central Scotland through this process over the coming months. If you would like to have a chat about your options or a quote for migration services, why don’t you contact us today.
