Did you see that Extron's new IN1608 scaling presentation switcher now features a built-in Extron IP Link Pro control processor #avnews

This is a BIG deal and will have a BIG impact on +Crestron  Electronics and +AMX  - regardless of what SPIN they put on it. Now, this doesn't mean that I think that, by any stretch of the imagination, Extron now has all that they need to be 100% in the full-on control system market? No. But, they are well on their way.

Where Extron once only did configurable systems and left the mid-level and high-end jobs to AMX and Crestron, now there is a formidable #3 that will rise.

Some may say, "hey, there was always Control4 and Savant, etc, etc, etc". Yea? Right. Nah. They were never threats to AMX or Crestron's domains as these guys do full-on custom programmable - do exactly what you want to do and make it look exactly like you want it to look" control systems. And, even if those other also-rans had anything close to AMX or Crestron, THEY WOULD HAVE NEVER MADE AN IMPACT LIKE EXTRON WILL - MARK MY WORDS.

Why?

Well, Extron has EVERYTHING else you need in a system - except projector and monitors. I mean everything. Every piece of glue in a system, they have. So, when they have an entire control system line shipping, watch out. People WILL shift to Extron for simplicity and compatibility. And, this new IN1608 is a glimpse into Extron's strategy. I would bet they will do more all-in-one boxes with built-in full-on control (as well as the complete stand-alone processors). And, that will, WILL, WILL have an impact.

Don't doubt this.

If I were an integrator doing rooms where the IN1608 worked, WHY WOULD I USE ANYTHING ELSE?

AV News With Attitude
Introduction
rAVe [Publications], founded in 1998 by Gary Kayye, is a news organization that provides coverage of the commercial (ProAV) and residential (HomeAV) audiovisual trade industries via e-newsletters, blogs, video, social media, and a variety of other mediums.

The target audience for rAVe’s publications is what we call “AV Insiders” – AV dealers, integrators, consultants, designers, etc. that deal in the sale, specification, design and installation of audiovisual products. We do not target what most people call “end users,” though a small percentage of rAVe’s readers may qualify as such, especially on the ProAV side of things.

rAVe is an opinionated news organization, providing news and commentary that reflect the opinions of its authors. We believe that all news is heavily affected by the views of its author, so we state up front that ours is going to be. We are also heavily biased towards the AV integrator/dealer’s perspective since, well, that’s our audience. However, we do NOT get paid by manufacturers, or anyone, for running off our editorial mouth. We run what we run based on what we think, and that’s it.

So whose opinions are you getting? Want to disagree with someone? Check out our current list of employees and contributors here. Everyone’s individual contact info is listed, and we’d love to hear from you.
