Today's the day! FINALLY! "The Companions" is officially released! The Sundering has begun!

http://images.wikia.com/forgottenrealms/images/3/37/The_Companions_Cover.jpg

Very excited for the release of this one.

PLEASE DO NOT POST SPOILERS HERE. Have respect for people who have not yet had the chance to read the book. Let them get to the end of the Prologue and go, "Huh?!?!?!?!"

Pretty please?

Bob

ps. The Kickstarter for DemonWars: Reformation is nearing 60% funded. Come on, let's push this thing through the roof so my team can deliver a fantastic game book full of amazing art and adventure.

pps. I'll be doing a large post later on explaining DemonWars to those Drizzt readers who haven't taken the jump into that world. DemonWars is my Middle Earth, my Forgotten Realms, where I'm in complete control of the entire setting. I am as proud of that work as I am the Drizzt series, and of killing Chew...err, never mind...

ppps. My next Forgotten Realms book, "Night of the Hunter," sailed through editing and is almost ready for the printer! It comes out in March of next year.

pppps. I just wanted to see what "pppps" looked like...

Been trying to collect my thoughts here...

At the Boston Marathon, people take drinks or even unwrapped food from perfect strangers, all with a smile, a thanks and no small amount of trust. The race is a personal competition full of nothing but winners, where onlookers cheer wildly for people they don't even know, and only the runner looks at the clock, if he or she even bothers at that point. The victory has already been achieved.

Patriots Day in Boston is one big party. The Red Sox play in the morning, the city is one big celebration of sport, of country, of humanity. At Fenway on Sunday, we saw runners from all over the country and the world, just enjoying the city and the springtime weather.

Someone tried to take all that away. Well, to that wretched person, I say, you failed. You brought senseless misery to a lot of people, nothing more. You made no statement anyone wants to hear. And if you think that your act of cowardice will bring Boston down for long, then, well, you just don't understand Boston.

On a personal note, I know several people who were at the blast site: the son of a friend and his newlywed wife who were blown back by the blast, but who are, thankfully, all right; the aunt and young cousins of someone very dear to me - one of the kids was hit with shrapnel but is, thankfully, home and okay. There are probably more...

To everyone affected, I'm sending good thoughts. To all who rushed in to help, bravo - you represent the best of human nature, in the face of the worst.

And to anyone reading this, I implore you, do not use this to foster divisiveness. We don't know who did this; angry speculation aimed at "the left" or "the right" or "the Islamists" or any other group, does nothing more than give the bomber a little victory. You see those people lying in blood? You see those people running in to help, disregarding their own safety to try to do some good? Some are Democrats, some are Republicans, some are Christian, some are Jewish, some are Muslim, some are atheist, some are Americans, some are from other countries.

All are...people. Just people. Understand that and those who would commit such acts of terror cannot ever win.

Peace,
Bob

I have always found your books to describe character traits I admire and that I want to acquire. The folk you speak of here, these folks are the embodiment of those traits. Kudos to them and all of their valor. Kudos to you for your ability to shine the light on the heros instead of putting more power into this villainous deed. Nice work Bob.

ANNOUNCEMENT (please help spread the word and SHARE this!):

Announcing "DemonWars: Reformation"

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rasalvatore/demonwars-reformation-0?ref=search

So here it is, my return to the world of Corona and DemonWars. I couldn't be happier about the way the game is shaping up, as well as the lore it's inspiring going forward.

So here's my first crowd-funded project (kickstarter). In effect, I've put the future of DemonWars in YOUR hands. I hope you'll back it and may the journey continue!

I've got some wonderfully talented people involved in this, as you'll see from the video (done by Mike Handverger, talented in too many areas to name). The music is brand new, from Award-winner Aubrey Hodges (who also did the map) and the logo...well, it's great to be working with Brian Labore (38 Studios vet) again.

So here we go. Your support, big mouths (please) and SHARES are very much appreciated!

Bob

ps. Check out the Clan Battlehammer shirt - had to wear it for the video debut!
DemonWars: Reformation is an old-school tabletop RPG focused on fast set-up, engaging combat and open-ended non-combat action.

ANNOUNCING: (I’m going to need your help with this, particularly in spreading the word, so please SHARE this and tell your friends.)

I’ve decided to take the plunge and do my first Kickstarter!

DemonWars: Reformation

20 years ago, I created a Pen & Paper RPG. It was fun and agile – the way I like to play and DM. We played for a while, but it really wasn’t so radically different from the other games out there, which were offering tons of support material on a regular basis, that we just kept a few of the rules and went back to our other games.

At the end of last year, I saw that my son Bryan, who is a professional game designer, was creating a new system for a game. I loved the concept and the mechanics of what Bryan was doing and on a hunch showed him my old work. We decided to marry the two games and set it in the world of Corona, thus beginning DemonWars: Reformation, a game and campaign setting that picks up the story of DemonWars after the defeat of Aydrian and De’Unnero, where the Abellican Church is in shambles and the Kingdom of Honce the Bear teeters on the edge of disaster.

My group has been playing Reformation since the beginning of the year – last night was insanely fun – and we’ve been tweaking the system as we go. Sometimes things just fall into place, and so it has been with this game, as the adjustments are always minor.

I desperately want to return to the world of Corona, for games (I designed the world, particularly the gemstone magic system, with my love of games in mind) and for more novels. Independent publishing, starting with this Kickstarter, is the way that makes sense for me to return to DemonWars.

So please help me to make this work. The Kickstarter will be up in a couple of weeks – I’ll announce it here, of course. We shot the introduction video over the last couple of days. We’ve met with the printers, the layout folks, several fantastic artists are on board…all the chips are falling into place.

If this works, this is the beginning of my return to Corona in a big way. The game itself moves the story of the world forward, and I’ll also be doing a novella as a stretch goal. If this Kickstarter works as I’m hoping, it will lead to Corona becoming a living, breathing world - indeed, I’ve several books in mind.

For any of you concerned that this will mean less from me in the Forgotten Realms, fear not. I’m doing two FR books a year, consulting with their D&D team and all is well there (here comes The Sundering!). That won’t change!

So, I gave myself a great late Christmas present yesterday:

"THE COMPANIONS" is done.

"The Companions" will be out in August of this year - which features TWO Forgotten Realms novels by me. "The Last Threshold" will be out in March...in fact, we've begun the e-signing at rasalvatore.com for it.

http://www.rasalvatore.com/esign/catalog.aspx

If you want a signed book and I won't be in your area (tour will be posting in the next month), this is how to get it.
