Understanding and Supporting Children and Young People with Autism

For any teachers and support staff who are keen to learn more and expand on their skills and experience supporting students with autism we are running a course on Understanding and Supporting Children and Young People with Autism. This course is being delivered by a lead teacher for autism in North London. The course covers the importance of how to organise and structure the day for a child or young person with Autism. It explores the different communication methods you might choose to try with a child or young person on the autistic spectrum. It will help you to understand the meaning of a low arousal setting and teaches you how to help a child reduce the disabling effects of autism with a minimally stressful approach.

How to Plan and Deliver a Good Lesson - Secondary Schools

This course covers OFSTED expectations for both lesson plans and observed lessons. As part of the workshop you will be looking at completing a detailed lesson plan which will help to prepare you for trial days and interviews. At the end of this session you will be aware of what OFSTED are looking for in a lesson observation, understand the value of a clear lesson plan and be able to complete a detailed lesson plan.

Introduction to Communication in SEN

This course explores the different methods of communication that are utilised when working with SEN students (in mainstream and SEN settings). This is an introductory course and will be a base for further experience and study.

A candidate who goes on this course will understand the challenges faced by non-verbal students, gain an understanding of how to use various visual aids to enable communication, have a basic understanding of how pictures can be used to communicate and understand and be able to use some basic signs to communicate with students.
