Have you heard? ‪PVHMC‬'s Inpatient ‪‎Diabetes‬ Care program has been awarded advanced certification from The Joint Commission. We are one of only 13 hospitals in the state, and one of only 86 nationwide, to receive this recognition.

True or False? You can get sick from simply being outside when the weather is cold.

FALSE. While cold temperatures can slow down the response of your immune system, a ‪‎virus‬ needs to already be present in your body for you to become sick.

Cold weather DOES cause people to stay indoors more, which increases their interactions with other people and their ‪‎germs‬. This is what causes a rise in the flu during the winter months.

You may want to rethink giving that box of candy or assorted chocolates to your loved one this Valentine's Day. Did you know the added sugars can increase your risk of heart disease?

"Instead, show your love with dark chocolate with at least 70% cacao content," says Art Espidol, MS, RD, Clinical Dietitian at PVHMC. "It is loaded with antioxidants that can aid in the prevention of heart disease."

Planning to ‪snowboard‬ or ‪ski‬ over the upcoming MLK holiday‬ weekend?

‪PVHMC‬ Physical Therapist, David Kandel, PT, OCS, CSCS, recommends performing a few ‎squats‬ before you hit the slopes - they're a great exercise to strengthen lower body muscles, the foundation of your riding abilities.

Did you know that you can spread the ‪‎flu‬ before you know you’re sick?
It's true. You can pass the flu ‪virus‬ to someone before you begin to show symptoms and up to a week after you start feeling sick. This is why practicing proper ‪hand hygiene‬ is so important during the flu season.

New Year’s resolutions are a perfect opportunity for us to implement major changes to our lifestyles. Unfortunately, the reality is that not many people are able to follow through.

‎PVHMC‬ challenges you to the following resolutions. They are easy to do, not just for the new year, but as a lifestyle.

1. Instead of a new diet – eat more ‪‎greens‬. Going cold turkey with a crash diet can be challenging and frustrating. Adding a variety of greens is a great way to achieve small, healthy changes to your diet.
2. Spend more time with people who lift you up. ‪Positivity‬ can change your life.
3. Prioritize ‪sleep‬. Restful sleep benefits both your physical and mental health.
