Yes, this is a feel good church
Introduction
Life can get you down. And that bothers you. And the fact that it bothers you means that on the inside, you have an instinct to move up.

That's not so hard to see when you take a walk in nature. Everything grows. It's nature.

Spiritual survival is about going through life and growing in every essential way, with your spirit intact. Physical health, a happy attitude, enough money and enjoyable relationships are what it's all about.

"I think what is dying is cultural, nominal Christianity, and I don’t think we should panic about that. I think we should see that as an act of God’s grace."

Death and resurrection are the founding act of Christianity.

Are you afraid for your faith to die?

If it's true faith, it cannot stay dead.

If it stays dead, let it stay dead; it wasn't the real thing.

The Gospels say it was "impossible" for Christ to stay dead because the Spirit was in him.

Whether you take that literally or poetically, the lesson is the same.

If the Spirit is in your faith, it cannot stay dead.

Like Obi-Wan Kenobi, it will just keep coming back as something stronger, more transcendent, wiser.

The lazier on the inside, the busier on the outside.

Externally calm people have done a lot of internal work.

For the love of money. For the love of God.

Do you do it for the money? Or do you do it for the love of it? Makes a big difference.

Are you doing it for money? Then you're doing it for nothing, because money is not a thing in itself.

Are you doing it for love? Then you're doing it for God, for God is love.

Read why she left the church.

In my opinion, if you have a church like that, you should leave it.

Of course, if you're born into it, what can you do?

But if you're a grown-ass man or momma and you have children and you're in a church like that, for the love of God and your kids, leave.

Better that you wander in the wilderness with the pillar of cloud and fire than eat the leeks and watermelons in Egypt. (If you grew up in church, you know too well what this means.)

God is everywhere, even if we're not entirely sure who or what God is.

The important thing is to keep walking. Don't stop. Life is pilgrimage.

Notice how she concludes obliquely that God was the reason she left the church.

I don't doubt it. Would God want you trapped in an abusive environment? Nope.

It is the flesh, not the spirit, that seeks the comfort zone. The spirit seeks the Comforter, the Holy Spirit.

When you see me running around working at breakneck pace, that's when you know that I've been lazy.

When you see me sitting in the sun with eyes half closed and a stupid smile on my face, that means I'm doing some seriously hard work on the inside.

Or I'm just chillin'.

You never can tell just from looking on the outside.

It's always what's invisible that really tells the truth.

Jesus, are you serious? ONE thing is necessary?

One thing is necessary.

That mystical union with Christ. Everything else important comes from that.

Aaron made a gold calf and named it Yahweh - not one of the old gods or a new god. He declared that the idol was the "one true God".

Why? And what does this ancient desert priest's actions say about spiritual seekers in our time, today?

Why "Fuel Good Church"?
http://alphalim.me

Back when I was pastoring a church, someone commented about another congregation, that it was a "feel good church".

She meant it as an insult. But it got me thinking, Well, yea. Should it be a "feel bad church" instead? What good does that do?

And so my philosophy of a church is that it should be a feel good church. At least most of the time. Sometimes you do bad and you should feel bad.

But most of all, Jesus commanded his followers to preach the "good news". Not the "bad news".

So, does good news make you feel good or bad?

Of course it makes you feel good!

But Christ was no slouch. He did not advocate escapism or denial.

The fact is, sometimes we mess up. Sometimes we do evil. And then we should feel bad for having done wrong.

But the message of Christ is that God forgives, and God makes things right again. That's the good news of the gospel.

So, if you've been made right, do you feel good or bad?

You feel good, of course!

Now, I know that some churches have a culture where they only feel good if they're feeling bad. "We're sinners saved by grace, after all, and don't you ever forget that!"

Well, yea. But what's a sinner who's been saved? A saint.

So you're a saint.

Why do you keep pretending to be a sinner, then? Because someone told you that you should feel bad?

Look, this is how it works. You realise your depravity. You feel bad. You look to God for his divine grace. You experience a transformation. And you feel good.

And you should feel good until and unless the power of grace becomes of no more effect. Which is never.

That's why I don't ever advocate walking around under a black cloud of condemnation. That's an affront to the work of Christ on the cross.

You should feel good because Christ has made you good.

Anything less is a lie.

Beating yourself up, self flagellation, is an expression of an internal belief that the transforming work of Christ is somehow insufficient and you need to make up for it with some effort of your own.

So, I advocate for a good-feeling conscience as the normal state. Not guilt, shame and inadequacy.

I run a feel good church.

I call it Fuel Good Church because I'm a punny guy and I enjoy wordplay.

Christ has made you good.

So you should feel good.

And this good feeling should fuel good works on your part. Naturally, not compulsively.

If you feel good, you'll do good and be good without conscious strain. It just flows.

So, yea, my feel good church isn't narcissistic, but world healing. It's life giving. It's concerned with personal, spiritual growth.

And when you're feeling good, it means that you're well in every aspect.

Spirit? Check.

Relationships? Check.

Work? Check.

Body? Check.

Money and things? Check.

Fuel Good Church is about feeling good and doing good because you've been made good by divine grace.

Simple as that.

No adding on to the work of Christ who said, "It is finished," on the cross.

We identify with the death of Christ. Our sins, sorrows, selfishness put to death.

We identify with the resurrection of Christ. Our spirit, significance and satisfaction brought to life.

I care less whether you identify with Christianity, a particular church, or none at all.

I care that you identify with Christ, the revelation of the "second Adam". The divine human. (Pardon me if this terminology is obscure. I'll unpack it in a later post.)

I care that you see the divine when you look in the mirror every morning.

Welcome to Fuel Good Church.
