http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=intel-skl-radeon&num=1  With my Skylake HD Graphics 530 Linux tests earlier this month from the new Intel Core i5 6600K processor, I compared the performance to several Haswell/Broadwell CPUs as well as AMD APUs. In this article I'm providing some fresh benchmark results of Intel's "Gen9" graphics compared to discrete AMD Radeon GPUs tested on the same Skylake system. All tests were done with Mesa 11.0 code and the DRM-Next code for Linux 4.3.

Thanks for the update; looks as though Intel Corporation finally has a serious candidate for all-in-ones in the 6th-Generation Core Processors™ (FCLGA 1151), which run competitively with the Advanced Micro Devices® A8 Series™ (Socket FM3b) on video.  The 4th-Gen Cores and earlier neded help in the display department.

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Vulkan-API-Overview  If for some reason you haven't been keeping up with our many articles about Vulkan and SPIR-V, there's a nice overview out about the new graphics API emerging from The Khronos Group.

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=coh2-linux-amd&num=1 While Company of Heroes 2 was released for Windows two years ago, this game that's now available on Linux as of earlier today is a disaster if trying to use the AMD Catalyst Linux driver... The performance means an unplayable game. A low-cost GeForce GTX 950 offers much better results.

The question I have is one of whether the GAME is following the OpenGL spec properly or not- NVidia's known to up-front smooth over many of the obvious, known sins on that regard for a slight perf hit.  AMD codes SPECIFICALLY to the spec and many titles may have sins (It should be noted that AMD's driver had to have workaround code put into it for a BAD practice a dev had in a MAJOR LucasArts title of the past...  It would take the then most powerful, fastest GPU and go from 100+ fps to 10 seconds per frame- and it wasn't the driver's fault...)

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=FFmpeg-HEVC-VA-API Last year Intel developers added HEVC decode support to VA-API followed a few months later by HEVC encode support to this Video Acceleration API used by the Intel open-source driver on Linux.

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Linux-4.3-Nouveau-Pull  A few days ago I wrote about the open-source NVIDIA kernel driver going through a big rework and now that code has been queued up into DRM-Next for Linux 4.3.

Can't wait for Ubuntu® 15.12a1 Xenial Xerus™ to finally become available for testing!  With Kernel 4.3 (initial Package: linux-image-4.3.0-11-generic) in the mix, I can finally see whether the Big Nouveau Rework will get the eMachines®/Acer® EL1210-09 as upgraded performing as I anticipate needing for the projection-computer project.

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=mesa11-radeon-reg&num=1  As some new Mesa 11.0 benchmarks to publish is looking at the performance of several Radeon GPUs on the R600g and RadeonSI Gallium3D drivers as tested out-of-the-box on Ubuntu 15.04 with the Linux 3.19 kernel and Mesa 10.5.2, then compared to the DRM-Next code for Linux 4.3 plus Mesa 11.0-rc1.

Introduction

Phoronix Media's premiere web property is Phoronix.com, which was founded after seeing the lack of online media that covered alternative operating systems at the time -- primarily when it came to Linux hardware reviews. Phoronix provides readers with the most detailed and up-to-date information in the computing world when it comes to the Linux and other open-source operating systems. Phoronix is especially well regarded for its Linux graphics articles and with time has become the leader in providing original Linux hardware content. More than 2,600 featured articles and 10,000 news postings have been published at Phoronix.

Phoronix is also responsible for the development of the widely-used Phoronix Test Suite testing software along with Phoromatic and OpenBenchmarking.org.

Phoronix was founded by Michael Larabel on 5 June 2004.
