If you were planning on picking up the YotaPhone 2 when it launched in the US, we've got some bad news for ya... #android
Sorry, Indiegogo backers, the US launch of the YotaPhone 2 has officially been cancelled. YotaPhone cites manufacturing delays as the reason, saying they didn't want a delayed release to interfere with the launch of their next big flagship next year.

those looking for something a little more authentic, @evleaks has come out of retirement once again to reveal some officially unofficial press renders of the phones before they're officially unveiled in September. We're sure this is just the first of many, so let us know what you think.

FYI: No one can "solve" Android's Stagefright vulnerability without a firmware update.

+Saumil Jobalia your understanding of android architecture is hilarious. Stagefright is in a core media library not the kernel. Preventing automatic retrieval of MMS messages mitigates 90% of the vulnerability. (MMS is not automatically sent to your phone, and notification packet is sent and the phone must then request the media content)

For those whose devices aren't getting recalled, there's an update for your SHIELD Tablet that'll take you straight to Android 5.1.1!
The NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet may have been recalled for a scary battery issue, but that doesn't mean there aren't other perfectly functional units out there which need ongoing treatment. NVIDIA has released Android 5.1.1 for the tablet.

The eSports scene is blowing up, and Samsung is probably kicking themselves for bowing out. Will they make a return with WCG 2015?
Is Samsung looking to make a return to the eSports scene? Their latest trademark filing hints as much. Samsung has trademarked World Cyber Games, and if you're unaware it was a popular annual eSports event that ran from the year 2000 at global destinations such as South Korea, United States, Italy and Germany.

Sony Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5 leak ahead of official announcement with interesting hardware
With Sony’s mobile division up against the ropes, you’d think they’d dial back launching new devices every few weeks. The newly leaked 6-inch Sony Xperia C5 Ultra and 5-inch Sony Xperia M5 feature relatively modest specs on paper, but both have their standout features.

I would love it if it had better specs. Budget specs, yuck.

OnePlus 2 is being shown off in popup experience tents around the world. Looks like a pretty good turn out. #android
It's almost surreal to see OnePlus' marketing dollars go to work in the real world. The smartphone startup erected a few popup experience tents in major cities around the world letting fans or anyone curious experience the OnePlus 2 firsthand.

Don't look now, but Android M Dev Preview 3 might not be out by the end of today.
When Google first opened the floodgates to the Android M Developer preview, we were told the 3rd revision would be out by the end of July. Welp, it's the 31st, and unless Google has a solid base of code ready to come out of the oven right this moment they probably won't be able to keep that promise.

Hangouts invitation settings are getting a bit more powerful today. Now, about that version 4.0...
Heads-up: some new chat invitation settings are inbound to Hangouts. The change was detailed by a Googler who mentioned users will now be able to easily allow friends and family with your phone number or email address to contact you without needing to first invite them.

This smartphone has a 6,250mAh battery in a 9.9-inch form factor. Why can't other companies do this?
While most OEMs are just fine stuffing anywhere between 1,800mAh and 3,500mAh batteries inside their phones, Doogee -- a Chinese company -- wants to go well beyond that. The company's latest smartphone, the HomTom HT6, brings to the table a huge 6,250mAh battery
