L.A. Times arts writer Carolina A. Miranda had a vision of the perfect dog for her family. She quickly learned you can’t judge a dog by the breed. Carolina and her husband Ed weren't looking for a pitbull, especially not one bred for fighting. But, when they met Bonnie, they changed their minds. The young couple quickly realized, when you give a pet love and a second chance at life, they'll love you right back. http://bit.ly/1Xb9bgd

As Sarabi enjoys bacon and cheese filled treats at her new forever home, it’s hard to believe she was once among a pack of starving pets slave to a hoarding case. But with a $17,500 emergency relief grant from @PetSmartCharities, the Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society was able to vaccinate, medicate, transfer, sterilize, microchip, foster and/or adopt a very large number of dogs including Sarabi.http://bit.ly/28M1gBS

Helping save pets through adoption, spay and neuter programs, and by supporting efforts that bring people and pets together. Learn more at: http://www.petsmartcharities.org
Introduction

PetSmart Charities, Inc., established in 1994, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization helping save homeless pets. As the leading funder of animal welfareorganizations across North America, we fund the following life-saving programs:

Helping save over 6.7 million pets—and counting—through adoption.
  • Everyday Adoption Centers:Nearly 7 million pets end up in shelters every year in North America. About 3 million will be euthanized due to overpopulated shelters – that's nearly 11,000 adoptable pets a day, which is why we never sell dogs or cats at PetSmart.
  • Our adoption centers free up space in local, overcrowded shelters, helping save more lives.

Learn more about our adoption programs at petsmartcharities.org/adoption/

Increased spay and neuterservices help prevent litters, thus reducing pet overpopulation. PetSmart Charities has subsidized more than 1.4 million spay or neuter surgeries since 2009 with more than 210,000 surgeries funded in 2015 alone.

We’ve joined forces with over 3,000 animalwelfare organizations to help save pet lives. Since 1994, we have granted more than $267 million to help save homelesspets.

A critical pillar of PetSmart Charities is assisting individual incidents where pets are impacted by man-made or natural causes. More than 230,000 pets have been assisted since 2007.
