This is for the first time an elected prime minister of the country has been invited to attend the talks touted as 'the annual conversation of the rich', in which Bangladesh can certainly take pride, they say.

Bangladesh currently ranks 36th on the WEP Balanced Development index.

The four-day economic meet in the largest ski resort in Switzerland, which brings together heads of state and government, economic and policy makers and business tycoons from about 50 nations of the world, began Tuesday.

Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque believes "Bangladesh has scaled a different level through Davos participation".

Speaking to bdnews24.com, he said the Davos participation has secured a niche for Bangladesh on the 'global investment radar.'

WEF President Klaus Schwab advised PM Hasina during his meeting with her on Tuesday to go for 'branding' Bangladesh in order to attract global investment.

"The first job on the branding has been done through the Davos participation," believes Bangladesh Ambassador to Switzerland and the country's permanent representative to Geneva, Shameem Ahsan.

Stressing more on the status of Davos and on the implications of Bangladesh's participation in it, Foreign Secretary Shahidul pointed out that Davos is the only platform that brings together government, non-government and civil society representatives under one hood.

"Together they imagine what the world will be like in the next 10-15 years," he explained.

He added that participation in the event gave the prime minister a platform to raise the problems faced by Bangladesh as well as suggest her opinions on how to make the 'world a liveable place' before heads of state and government of about 50 nations.

State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, who is on the prime minister's tour party, is very upbeat about the progress.

He said Davos woke him up to the strides of development that his country has taken in the last few years.

He said he could 'share with a lot of pride' that the nation occupies 36th rank on the WEP Balanced Development index released Monday.

"It's magic", he quipped, referring to the development and credited the 'progressive leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina' for the quick growth on the front.

Diplomat Shameem Ahsan believes that WEP chief Schwab is positive about the prospects of Bangladesh.

He said when the idea of Bangladesh hosting an event in the fashion of WEP was flaunted before him during his meeting with the prime minister, he expressed full confidence that Bangladesh could pull it off.

Hasina and members of her delegation representing the country at the coveted forum have taken part and spoken at several sessions over the last two days.

After successful completion of Annual Meeting of the WEF 2017, I had a very memorable time with the daughters of the father of the nation, our Hon'ble Prime Minister, H. E. Sheikh Hasina and Hon'ble Sheikh Rehana, during our journey from Davos to Zurich Airport.
