In today's Queen's Speech, the Government announced its rebranded and upgraded Snoopers' Charter with even more powers for the police and GCHQ.

Can you sign our petition against the new Snoopers' Charter then share it to your friends?

We can expect to hear plenty from surveillance maximalists telling us they can make us safe. It's important to push back.

Say not to the #TaxDataSellOff: please sign and share!
HMRC wants to sell our tax data. It’s dangerous and wrong.

In a big victory for digital rights campaign groups, the European Court of Justice declared the Data Retention Directive invalid yesterday.

This opens up the question of what the government and ISPs do next? Both are in a dubious legal situation now that data retention has no legal basis.

Since Wednesday afternoon, 3,500 people have signed our petition on the Snoopers' Charter. Here's the text of the petition that they've signed. If you agree, can you sign it too then share it with your friends?

"We demand an end to indiscriminate retention, collection and analysis of everyone's Internet communications, regardless of whether they are suspected of a crime.

We want the police and intelligence agencies to have powers that are effective and genuinely protect our privacy and freedom of speech."

Against all expectations the Conservatives have won an absolute majority in the General Election. Theresa May has already said this morning that she will use this majority to pass a new Snoopers' Charter.

Can you join ORG today and give £5 a month to help us fight for digital rights at this incredibly challenging time?

The Snoopers' Charter is back. 4 members of the House of Lords have tabled an 18 page amendment to the Counter-Terrorism and Security Bill that is almost identical to the Communications Data Bill that we stopped in 2013.

The Lords are debating the new Snoopers Charter on Monday. Tell them to turn up and speak against the amendment!

Find Lords on Twitter or email a Random Lord on Write to Them.

Why the rush? Data retention legislation that forces ISPs to collect data about us is being rammed through Parliament today without scrutiny.

Tell your MP to stop the Data Retention Stitch Up!
The Government announced legislation this morning forcing Internet Service Providers and phone networks to carry out blanket retention of your phone calls, your texts, and your Internet browsing history. The plans have the support of the frontbenches of the three largest parties.

Defending digital rights and civil liberties in the UK
Introduction

Open Rights Group is the UK’s leading voice defending freedom of expression, privacy, innovation, creativity and consumer rights on the net.

We campaign to change public policy whenever your rights are threatened, by talking to policy-makers, informing the public through the media, and mobilising our supporters.

Founded in 2005 by 1,000 digital activists, ORG is a non-profit organisation. We have grown with the help of funding from charitable trusts concerned about citizens' rights. However most of our financial support comes from ordinary people like you, contributing small regular amounts or making donations
