Kings Dominion (Doswell, VA) is looking for ASL Intepreters for their annual Deaf Awareness Day event on Saturday, May 30th, 2015. I am not going this year but have worked it in prior years. Pretty good deal with lots of "freebies". If you are interested and would like the application packet. Respond here and I will email you the packet. #KingsDominion #Deaf #ASL

Thank you DHN for recognizing ASL Day!
Celebrate ASL Day with ASL Emojis!!

(from Adrean Clark)

Three people who I want to be sure are recognized in this video --

Victor Medina is the first man in the ASL Day footage. Jon Savage (jonsavagegallery.com) is the mustachioed man in the ASL Day poem footage. Along with his wife Holly Savage, the three of us work together on promoting ASL Day. Jon was the one who had the first thought for it! :D

THE GOOD: a former 4-star hotel. Roomy. Big indoor heated pool, nice hot tub (but jets didn't work properly). comfortable room, bedding. Nice Flat-screen TV with a very functional remote (adjust zoom - good for analog channels). HDMI inputs. Wifi free & good but could be faster. (Netflix/Hulu/SlingTV on a laptop plugged into the TV all worked pretty well and was much clearer than the built-in channels) THE BAD: older & in disrepair on the outside, inside, and in the room. TV provider is going digital so many TV channels weren't available. Tub had many rust/mold/mildew stains. wallpaper was worn and peeling. not enough plugs near bed/TV for devices. musty hallways. Room was a bit musty but sprayed some febreze and it helped a lot. No Breakfast, no room service (Sports Bar on premises for lunch/dinner), no laundry service (but self-service laundry room is available) Fridge in room. Microwave by Public Ice machine. Desk staff not very friendly. Hall music a bit too loud. Price is cheap (especially with online deals) but realize it is a former 4-5-star hotel that is now older and in disrepair. Prices reflect this. Not as bad as some of the older reviews suggest

Horribly Horribly Horribly Slow! Waited at speaker for 3 minutes before they even took our order. Could hear worker yelling at others (forgot to turn off intercom). Told us to pay wrong amount. Staff also had horrible attitude.

Horrible customer service. Kids got a gift for me as a surprise (with a warranty). They emailed me the receipt (after promising not to), thus spoiling the surprise. Emailed Best Buy multiple times in multiple places - no response. Finally called - all they offered was an apology since the device actually worked.

Just came to Rocky Mount, NC Theater for first time in several years. Nice renovations. Glad to see they added CC & ALDs for the #deaf. Disappointed they only added it to half their screens, and NOT the movie my wife (hard of hearing) & I wanted to see.

avoid "Buffet" -- stick with take out. "Buffet" means order 2 slices, wait for re-warming, eat, wait in line, order 1 more slice, wait for re-warming, eat, wait in line, order 1 more slice... etc. Worst part is, with each slice you get attitude: "oh no, not you again!?!" is the look you get with each extra order, as if it was a huge imposition. The pizza is actually pretty good, but stick with take out!
