The George Mason University Sid and Reva Dewberry Department of Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering sought to improve the lives of children and adults by increasing efficiency in water distribution and decreasing risks associated with consumption of bacteria ridden water at the Puerto Cabezas Feeding Center in Nicaragua. The University of Nebraska—Lincoln Charles W. Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Construction is the $25,000 grand prize winner for the 2016 NCEES Engineering Award. The department received top prize for its submission, 888 Boylston Street-Interdisciplinary Team Design. The team designed a proposed 17-story mixed-use high-rise building; the main guideline was for the building to be energy efficient according to the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers standards. Election news from #NCEESWZ16:

Brian Hanson, P.E., of the Alaska State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers, and Land Surveyors, has been elected Western Zone Vice President.

Chun Lau, P.E., S.E., of the Washington State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, has been elected Western Zone Assistant Vice President.

Pat Tami, P.S, of the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists, has been nominated President-elect.

Introduction
NCEES (the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing professional licensure for engineers and surveyors. It develops, administers, and scores the examinations used for engineering and surveying licensure in the United States. It also facilitates professional mobility and promotes uniformity of the U.S. licensure processes through services for its member licensing boards and licensees. These services include the records program, study materials, credentials evaluations, exam administration, and more.
