In a positive development for operators at embattled East Hampton Airport (HTO) on New York’s Long Island, the town of East Hampton said it would not enforce the noise and access restrictions that it adopted last month for at least three more weeks. “We are pleased that Judge Seybert recognizes the need to consider a temporary restraining order, and will take the time to study the situation at East Hampton Airport,” said Steve Brown, NBAA chief operating officer.

The FAA has awarded two new contracts for flight-planning tools, which will enable pilots to file flight plans and receive the latest weather information online. The contracts were awarded to Computer Science Corp. and Lockheed Martin Corp., both of which will provide pre-flight services through the Direct User Access Terminal Service (DUATS) II.

Last week, Bloomberg published an article looking at U.S. accident records dating back to 2000, concluding that there have been five times more fatal accidents involving business aviation aircraft over the past 15 years than of commercial airlines. In a response posted on Bloomberg's website, NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen noted. "The story’s lop-sided view of business aviation left out important information about what goes into making business aviation one of the safest forms of transportation, which routinely, reliably delivers many thousands of businesspeople to their destinations each year."
