James O’Shaughnessy had a #tumor about 8 centimeters that was located in a complex and difficult-to-access space, surrounded by the blood vessels that supply the #brain and nerves that innervate and control the eye, as well as the face. Thanks to Dr. Iloreta and Dr. Genden, they were able to perform a highly complex skull base surgery, and removed the tumor without making any external incisions. Mr. O'Shaughnessy's recovery took about 4 weeks. Now he's back to working, exercising four days a week, and paddle boarding. “This whole journey was a bit of a wakeup call because I was working long hours, six days a week. I certainly look at life differently; I don’t sweat the small stuff anymore. My attitude toward working with stress is much better and traffic jams don’t bother me. I am so much happier with life! I can’t praise or recommend The Mount Sinai Hospital enough! The doctors, nurses, and friendly staff were all amazing! I have a feeling of euphoria and am absolutely grateful to Mount Sinai for it," Mr. O'Shaughnessy states. "If I'm craving carbs, I swear by one slice of toasted sprouted-grain bread or half an English #muffin with 1/3 mashed #avocado on top and a sprinkle of lemon juice. This is a great combination of #fiber and #healthy fats to help keep me satisfied and my blood sugar levels steady, and the creaminess of the avocado is a great substitution for butter or other spreads high in saturated fat." - Kelly Hogan, MS, RD, CDN, Clinical #Nutrition Coordinator, The #DubinBreast Cancer of the Tisch Cancer Institute at Mount Sinai.
