Today is Endangered Species Day so all day we'll be featuring several species that we are working to protect around the world!

#animalfact  - African penguins, like most other penguin species, are endangered in the wild. Oil spills, historical hunting, and destruction of their habitat have killed 80% of the population in the last 50 years. Right now, the greatest source of their troubles comes from a catastrophic drop in the number of sardines as a result of over-fishing and changing ocean climate. Check out our Fish Smart program to learn more about keeping our oceans healthy via sustainable fishing and seafood!

Learn more about these amazing animals by visiting our 3M Penguins of the African Coast exhibit and checking out our website here - http://goo.gl/VRqf8Q

Speaker: Dr. Seth Stapleton

Polar bears are icons of the Arctic, capturing the imaginations of wildlife enthusiasts and conservationists worldwide. They also have come to symbolize climate change and are frequently invoked to promote broader agendas. This reality has created a confusing picture in which it can be difficult to disentangle fact from fiction. Polar bears face a tenuous future, but how are they currently faring, and what does their future look like? How do biologists monitor polar bears across the far-flung reaches of the Arctic? Where do uncertainties remain, and why? Join Seth Stapleton, wildlife biologist at the University of Minnesota, as he discusses the current state of polar bear science in the North American Arctic.

Our World Speaker Series presentations are supported by MinnPost and the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment.
This Hangout On Air is hosted by Minnesota Zoo. The live video broadcast will begin soon.

Did you know? Fixing household leaks can save up to 10,000 gallons of water a year.

If 100 people complete today’s ‪#48DaysofBlue challenge to check for leaks, we can save enough water to fill two olympic size swimming pools! → http://48days.blue/1EuC5g4

I have been to many zoos in my life and all around the United States. The Minnesota Zoo is one of the best I have ever been to and I absolutely love it! It has something to offer everyone, all year round! I love the enclosures and how well treated the animals are!

Minnesota Zoo is a large zoo but overpriced. It's clean and a bit scenic. I wish they had some animals to pet. I think it was "meh".

This is an okay zoo with some pretty nice exhibits. The highlights are the family farm area and the Minnesota trail. Unfortunately, it's too expensive for what it is. We'd probably go here more if they cut the price in half. We've been to much nicer zoos that cost less.

The Zoo has a great facility, with ample parking, a great lobby/visitor center, and even an attached IMax (albeit I think the IMax-Lite). Current temporary exhibit of Giant Bugs was a hoot. We enjoyed the bird program in the arena. The staff was kind enough to let us stowe our luggage in an office while we enjoyed the Zoo before an airline flight. My only complaint is a little more signposting indicating on path splits what's in that direction. I recommend the Minnesota Zoo!

We're zoo family members. Great value. It's great that there's so much to see and do in the winter, especially here in Minnesota. To the comment about no Elephants and Giraffes: they had giraffes this summer, but the zoo is brilliant in only having animals in the outside exhibits that can live in our climate year-round. What a great learning tool. It's definitely one of my daughter's and my favorite places.

We bought the season pass for the family and I regret it. We havent been for 2 years until this year and it feels like it's going down hill. The train is now closed also. The entry way is congested and it just isnt that impressive anymore. If you're looking for a day trip to entertain the kids, just go to Como Zoo, free admission and more for the kids to do.
