The Santhal tribe lives isolated in the Ayodhya Hills and Sundarbans delta of West Bengal. They think every visitor is a journalist come to tell the world of their existence, their plight, their undying hope.

Someone listened, and for the first time, the Santhals are able to realize their hopes. This is their true story, captured on camera.

Deepmala, a young married woman, wanted to become a teacher and her husband was against her going out to study. She would protest against this, and during one such argument in February 2014, her husband threw acid on her face. She suffered serious burn injuries, and was left blinded. Her father is a farmer who has already sold the only piece of land he owned, for her treatment. Her parents are finding it difficult to meet the expenses of her medicines and hospital stay, which is around INR 25,000 (approx. USD 400) per month. A small contribution from you can help her get a new face. http://buff.ly/1A82Cw9

All of these women took out a loan with nothing more than dreams and plan. Today, they've paid back their loans in full and on their way to success. #PowerToWomen

A Santhal tribal kid clicked at a village Dhanchattani, nestled in the Ajodhya forest hills in Purulia, West Bengal. One has to walk for 2 hours to reach this village. The electricity grid of India hasn't reached this remote hilly village yet. The tribals saw lights for the first time when Milaap funded solar micro grids in the area. #SmilesToDieFor

Loan a little. Change a lot.
Introduction
Milaap is the first micro-lending platform that enables anyone in the world to lend to India’s working poor.

Mission

To catalyze the next generation of microfinance through online microlending and fulfill varied unmet needs of the poor that go beyond just credit. We envision a world where the poor are valued as dignified consumers, suppliers, and producers as opposed to mere borrowers.

Company Overview

Founded by a team of young social entrepreneurs, Milaap's office is based in Bangalore.

Milaap combines the internet and human intent to create sustainable social change. Through our online platform www.milaap.org, anyone from any part of the world can now lend as little as Rs 1000 or USD 50 to India’s working poor, enabling them the means to lead an improved standard of living. The process is simple. Choose a borrower. Make a loan. Get repaid. Recycle.

At Milaap, we believe that a small loan can lead to empowered communities, healthier society and educated household. Hence our slogan- Loan A Little. Change A Lot.
