My first trial with growing cucumbers in San Francisco was with Straight Eight. It grew to several inches tall and withered to nothing. The next year I tried the same variety with the self watering...

Bush Spacemaster Cucumber - there are two in this pot at 64 days. There is a very high ratio of male to female flowers, and I have been manually pollinating the females. The cucumbers do much better indoors than outdoors here.

The Chronicle has an article on Blue Beauty tomatoes this week. Last yr's Cherokee Purple was from Ferry Morse bought at Home Depot; never again! Give Baker Creek a shot; they own Peteluma Seed Bank in Marin. I'll have to post pics of Brussels sprouts and artichoke plants this wknd.

Great new funky addition to SOMA with good prices. Only complaint is their burgers are supposed to come out medium but more often than not they are on the rarer side. Asking for it to be cooked more thoroughly at the register is met with an attitude and it still comes back undercooked...but I'll keep coming back because of the price.

Food here is amazing when it is slow. We just finished when it was really rushed and it was really, really bad unfortunately. The enchiladas were flavorless and the chicken in them was watery making a soup on the plate. On the slow days the fresh pressed tortillas are well covered and cooked in the salsa roja adding great flavor and the chicken is better prepared making a dish that is lighter and more satisfying than enchiladas found elsewhere that are smothered in sauce.

Pretty good food. Asked if we wanted msg which was nice to have the option. Jia was nice enough to verify food allergy issues and offer alternative preparations but was curt at times.
