Proud hockey Dad moment tonight.  Had a chance to coach my son's hockey team playing at an NHL arena (the SAP Center, home of the San Jose Sharks).  Such an awesome, special, memorable experience for our whole family.  :) Team Red won 4-2 over Team Orange!

Nice little day and night time "over NYC" film and great resulting gallery of photos!  links to both, below!
"Imagine leaning out of an open door of a helicopter 7,500 feet over New York City on a very dark and chilly night...

And seeing this."

Filmmaker, photographer, producer, teacher, advisor, innovator and very, very proud father of two, Vincent Laforet brings us a look at Gotham, that you will never forget.

Based on our current perceptions of driving, this will force a double take but when you consider that the car will be driving itself, it does make you rethink the cabin of a vehicle..

“Anyone who focuses solely on the technology has not yet grasped how autonomous driving will change our society,” Daimler AG Chairman Dr. Dieter Zetsche said. “The car is growing beyond its role as a mere means of transport and will ultimately become a mobile living space.”

I love slowly scrolling through these weekly photo / news roundups..
This week we have images of the "no pants" subway ride in Mexico City and New York, fish collected from an abandoned department store in Bangkok, Pope Francis on a week-long Asian tour, Ukraine's festival of Malanka, snowy surfing in Northern Ireland, and much more.

This is what needs to happen for the state of California to be done with the drought..
After a drenching December and now an unfortunately very dry January, the statistics of just how much rain is needed statewide to begin to exit the drought is staggering.  As this NOAA Climate feature shows, in the case of Northern California - at least 200% of average rainfall from now to September or roughly  30"-60"+ of rain around the Bay Area.  It would essentially require many months like last December through Spring...meanwhile trending cold enough to drop much more snow in the Sierra which is at 38% of average to date statewide.  Bay Area totals which had been in the 150%-275% in December continue to drop as well, still above the 100%/average value.

Who knew +NASA had a +SoundCloud page?!  Amazing, immersive clips of launch rocket sounds, verbal commentary and sounds from deep space!  ->
Here's a collection of NASA sounds from historic spaceflights and current missions. You can hear the roar of a space shuttle launch or Neil Armstrong's "One small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind" every time you get a phone call if you make our sounds your ringtone. Or, you can hear the memorable words "Houston, we've had a problem," every time you make an error on your computer. For sound file use policy, please see: http://go.nasa.g...

All kinds of chocolaty awesome.. :)
There’s no earthly way of knowing Which direction they are going! There’s no knowing where they’re rowing, Or which way the river’s flowing! Not a speck of light is showing, So the danger must be growing, For the rowers keep on rowing, And they’re certainly not showing Any signs that they are slowing. . . .
