So Mercedes-Benz brought a shiny SLS AMG into #whereconf, which comes loaded with Android and Google Maps. It seems pretty slick, but I'm not so sure.

You can see in the informational photo below, your phone can do most of that already. The performance gauges would be nice, but the other three items are already on my phone and are better on my phone since this car only runs Android 2.1. Having it built-in would be nice, but docking my phone in the windshield isn't particularly challenging.

When (if?) Android is updated for the car, you have to take it to the dealer for the upgrade, which is a shame. Also, it requires that you purchase a separate SIM card for it to use for data -- it can't tether to your phone. Granted, people that are purchasing a $200,000 car won't be too bothered by an extra $30/month, but it is kind of a shame.

All of that said -- I still want one!

I forgot to take a photo of the outside of the car, but you can see one from +Mano Marks here:

Yeah, but my Evo 4G gets horrible gas mileage when I drive it. And it has no trunk. The seats suck, and the air conditioner never works. On the other hand, the heater works really well!
Awesome. If you only the user could update to the latest android versions
LOL +Prasanth Vasudevan . It's Mercedes. They'll update it to Gingerbread for $2500. ICS? $4500.

Yep, it's a bigger jump from 2.33 to 4.01 than from 2.2 to 2.3. Lots more work to do...
