R/GA’s Connected Office An Ideal Home for Alumni Trio

At Miami Ad School, you develop the skills and master the tools you need to start a career you’ll love.

You’ll also need to know what kind of environment you’d love to work in—what sort of scene really suits you—so you can decide what position to accept once you’re done.

Fortunately, you’ll graduate with that knowledge too.

Katy, Zoë and Edward did just that. They took their skills—and their Quarter Away experience— and landed their dream jobs at R/GA. Pippa Seichrist caught up with the trio and got the story on their journey to the place and the roles that were just what they were looking for.

The International Andy's Only Give a RESET award when an entry "moves the industry forward." Two art directors from Miami Ad School Madrid are the first students ever to earn this honor.

Taking home “metal” —industry-speak for award show trophies—from any competition is always a reason to raise a glass and celebrate. But it’s not often that you can say some of your work was so inspirational that it changed the way a carefully curated group of world-class professionals looked at their own industry.

Two Miami Ad School Madrid students pulled that off.
Miami Ad School Madrid students Elena Hernandez and Rodrigo Dominguez first students ever to win the International ANDY’s RESET award.

Looking for a Job? Try Showcasing Your Failures. http://goo.gl/1WEXff

One of the hardest things to do is write your cover letter and resumé. It’s something that you learn in school, but when you sit in front of your blank computer screen staring at the flashing curser your mind also goes blank. How can you demonstrate that you're a creative, hard-working team player? What will catch your potential employer's attention? What do you do to get an advertising agency to take the next step and call you in for an interview?

20 Things You May Not Know About Being a Copywriter

When Soham Chatterjee graduated from Miami Ad School’s Copywriting Program, he had job offers from four top advertising agencies in New York and Chicago. After exploring his options, Soham decided to join Leo Burnett. Now he stays busy creating big ideas—including TV commercials, print ads, art installations, digital campaigns and radio spots—for Brooks Shoes, Donate Life America, Fifth Third Bank, Samsung, Human Rights Foundation, Miller High Life and McDonalds. When asked what it’s really like to be a copywriter, Soham sent us this list.

1. Contrary to popular belief, copywriters don’t copyright stuff. They come up with groundbreaking ideas and craft them with words.
2. As a copywriter, you’ll need your own space to ideate. So think beaches, rooftop bars, gymnasiums and ant farms. You won’t be tied down to a cubicle.
3. Want to visit an exotic location? Include it in your TV script. If it sells, you get to go there.
4. At work you’ll get to master Ping-Pong. And beer pong. Anything that includes the word “pong.”
5. Copywriters work alongside technologists, strategists, photographers, filmmakers and—in some cases—even astronauts. You’ll work with some of the best professionals in their fields to bring your ideas to life.

Day One: OPENING Loudly

Type has a voice, and Hank Richardson's students learn that by standing on a table and yelling at the top of their lungs.

Hank Richardson • Design Director, Miami Ad School @ Portfolio Center

Before we get started, here’s a little background. Some years ago, when I was a college student, I couldn’t make sense of how I hated art history class so much, considering my love for art history. Slide after slide, I would struggle to memorize them all. I thought there had to be a better way to learn this stuff. I promised myself, right then, that if I ever had the opportunity to teach and awaken young souls, I would look for better way.

Learn in the heart of the advertising capital of the world!

Long Island City is filled with a population from all over the world, every kind of food is walking distance or a phone call away. There are cool places to eat, drink and play just a short walk from the school. It is a very short distance from LGA airport and an easy train ride from Manhattan and we are directly over the largest beer garden in NYC. It is just plain cool!

The Miami Ad School is an inspiring campus with state of the art amenities and technology resources. Our organization, the Arts & Business Council of Miami, held a planning meeting for 30 people here. The staff was extremely professional, welcoming and accommodated our every request. It is always refreshing to collaborate with such a professional team! We can't wait for another opportunity to visit the campus. We highly recommend them as an institution of talent, venue space and all around awesome place to hang out in Wynwood.

Miami Ad School has been a life saver for me in my creative world since I haven't been back to an art school that has made me feel back at home in almost a decade. It brings back my love for design, gives me a reason to think of design ideas and draw again. The students of all programs have made us proud, and myself especially since I helped them get their foot in the door. I love everything this school presents and teaches, and helps students get themselves out there instead of leaving them to fend for themselves in this industry alone.

MAS only needs one more 'S' to be a religious experience. This place is a divine revelation for creativity students, a place to learn with the Gods of advertising and reach creative Heavens.

Miami Ad School is likely to be one of those experiences that shape and change your life. More than a school, it’s a home for anyone creative looking for likeminded people to crunch projects with all night. Because yes, the school is open 24/7, and yes, there is a coffee maker. If you indeed are a creative, that should excite you. The value of going to Miami Ad School is not only measured in having some of the greatest creative minds in the world share their knowledge with you, but by the fellow students you work with every day. Over the course of two years I’ve met some of the most amazing people I know today, made a few best friends, seen classmates get married, and found someone who became incredibly special to me. All of these people - talented creatives you will carry with you for the rest of your life. While at MAS I learned how to keep my eyes on the ball through think and thin, became a slightly better person, and even found myself somewhere along the way. You will put everything else aside, give this school your all, and come out on the other side as a great creative, skilled, with job offers, and stories to spare. Fail fast, and fall forward. Godspeed.

“When you decide to go to Miami Ad School, simply pack your bag with the passion to learn. The rest is taken care of. Miami Ad School provides a pedestal for every budding creative who wants to make it big in advertising. Read “big” in bold. Because when you are a part of Miami Ad School you lose the chance to be mediocre. MAS didn't just help me to become a good creative but what followed was tons of awards and a book that got me job offers from some of the best agencies in the world. Miami Ad School isn’t just a school. It’s a lifestyle. I’m living it. What about you? #maslife” Cheers, S.

This place is going to change how you perceive advertising. This place is going to teach you what advertising is. This place is going to change the way you think for the rest of your life. This place is going to make you smarter, kinder, and a better person. This place is going to teach you that having pure talent means nothing without the hard work. This place is going to teach you that hard work will trump talent every single time. This place is going to make you independant. This place is going to give you real world experience. This place is going to give you new family. This place is going to give you innumerable special friends for life. This place will turn your life around. This place is going to be your home. All Im saying is when you learn, you've got to learn from the best there is. I have had the best 2 years of my life here. Thank you Miami ad School. I am forever indebted to your graciousness.

When you leave family, friends, relationships and everything you love behind to pursuit a dream it is scary. You throw yourself into a world you don't know but being at Miami Ad School made it easier. There will never be enough words to describe my experiences here because it moulded me into a human first, a creative second.
