What's the difference between all these pads? Which ones should you get for your bike and your type of riding?

We asked our friends at Chorley Cycling Club to draw up a 30-ish mile route to do starting from our shop. This is what they came up with.

It's hard to believe some of the things that our cycling ancestors got up to - and got away with! Here are some of our favourite misadventures.

This week's new stuff. Includes Castelli's new cyclocross clothing range and the grips that were so pink that our camera couldn't record their colour properly.

I am a regular customer of Merlin cycles - as one of the big names in stack-it-high-and-sell-it-cheap retail I have found them to be reliable and competitively priced. As an extra bonus, there warehouse/shop is a mile from my house so its handy to pop in when I need anything - the shop staff have always been very helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone looking for competitively priced parts and equipment and I'm sure I will be making purchases from them again soon.

I have dealt with Merlin Cycles for around 6 years and have not had any reason to post a negative review. I did get a stand a few years back with a broken support sleeve but this was replaced quickly and the person I spoke to was very friendly. Some reviews mention they are curt when replying or not great at packing goods. I have not had this experience but you have to look at the facts - you're dealing with a (mainly) internet based company so they will have many enquiries potentially from worldwide and so need to keep answers brief to manage the workflow. The packing is perfectly adequate from my experience but then things sometimes do go wrong when goods are shipped by carrier and in my experience issues have been dealt with well. If you want good old fashioned customer service and don't want to worry about delivery then use a local bike shop but expect to pay a premium. If you want good products at the best prices then buy online. Simple.

I have used the shop on many occasions and I've always found them to be extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Best to check their website though before travelling far. The shop only has a small proportion of available stock on display; they have everything you could need in the warehouse when you ask

Perfect. Friendly helpful staff with a huge choice from the attached warehouse. Consider looking through their online catalogue before going to the store so you can ask them to bring out the goods!

Ordered some knee pads from here, after a week of no show I sent their customer services an email but no reply. After 9 days I made a phone call and discovered they had sent a refund to my paypal as my order was out of stock but received no email to inform me of this. Ver shoddy

I have used Merlin since I got involved in Mountain biking back in the 90's, since then I have bought my first road bike from them a Sensa Giulia . Whilst they have moved a a couple of times and the shop keeps getting bigger, I still see familiar faces and the service is as friendly as ever. Prices are hard to beat too, just check online.

Prompt when it all goes right. Reasonably attentive and considered when it doesn't. Generally the best prices on the web and arrives at your door. Personable and available on the phone and answering e mails. What's not to like?
