I used to build desktops around 1998-2002 but I have long since stopped following in the ins and out, which chip is better and all that. I am looking at building myself a new desktop and I am looking for some advice. I run elementaryOS (LInux distro based on Ubuntu) and I do a good level of work in GIMP so I need a middle ground system with some image handling capability.
I had been planning on just buying an ok system from Bestbuy and adding some memory or video card, but the more I look into it, I think I could build one myself for much less and be better suited to what I want. I am also interested in the micro-desktops they have now and as I will not need a CD-DVD drive I can leave that entirely out of the footprint.
