#leafs Bob McKenzie on the Horton for Clarkson trade - Bob McKenzie on TSN Drive: On trading Horton for Clarkson and not Semin or Richards: I couldn’t honestly tell you that I know for a fact there was conversation between [those teams]. What I can suggest that is, of those three you mentioned – Clarkson, Semin, Richards – Semin wasn’t a fit in the eyes of Columbus. They were not looking for a high-end, underachieving goal-scoring winger. I don’t think they were eager t... http://ow.ly/2Vgf7J

#leafs Agent Pat Morris on David Clarkson trade - Pat Morris joined Leafs Lunch to discuss his client David Clarkson’s trade to Columbus.  His involvement in getting the deal done: I actually spoke to Dave Nonis about another thought that we had on David, probably a week ago. I started with Nonis on that dialogue that had some legs, then [it] died. Then, Dave said, “I might be working on something else, would you have interest in listening to that?” I said, “sure, bring... http://ow.ly/2VfB96

#leafs Leafs trade David Clarkson for Nathan Horton - This is a genius save by the Leafs and MLSE, flexing their financial muscle to expunge the worst contract mistake in team history. On Long Term Injured Reserve and off the cap, Nathan Horton’s career looks to be over due to horrible back injuries. From a piece by Greg Wyshynski: “I can’t stand up like a normal person; I can’t bend over. I can’t run. I can’t play with my kids. To get in and out of the car, I’m like a ... http://ow.ly/2Vdw0h

#leafs Sold out of rentals; Is Tyler Bozak next? - With the Daniel Winnik trade goes the Leafs’ most consistent player of the past couple of months, as the Leafs get necessarily worse in the short term while fetching good value for their final pending-UFA. Roman Polak, with one year left on his contract, seems to be the most likely remaining candidate to be moved, while Tyler Bozak’s name has been gaining steam as well, with Bob McKenzie reporting a possible New York Ra... http://ow.ly/2VbgU9

#leafs Friday Mashup: It Really Happened - We’ve pinched ourselves and waited ’till morning. David Clarkson’s still listed as a Columbus Blue Jacket. Strapped with way too many long term deals for a bottom five hockey club, the Leafs needed to open up cap flexibility. Nobody expected they would be able to offload the League’s biggest boat anchor. Not in a million years, not without giving up assets and retaining salary. Thankfully Columbus came knocking, in a terrible s... http://ow.ly/2VegNZ

#leafs Game 61 Scoring Chances: Maple Leafs 3 vs. Flyers 2 - The Clarkson-free Leafs had a strong first twenty-five minutes, out-chancing the Flyers and opening up a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals from the top line.   The rest of the second period was all Philadelphia, as they dominated the chances, 10-1, but couldn’t find a way past Jonathan Bernier. The Leafs started the third by widening the lead even further, but faced some penalty problems, as the Flyers had a number ... http://ow.ly/2Ve140

#leafs Leafs re-acquire TJ Brennan in exchange for Spencer Abbott http://ow.ly/2VdcMh
The Leafs have re-acquired defenceman TJ Brennan in exchange for forward Spencer Abbott. The Leafs re-signed Abbott, a former free agent out of college, and let Brennan go last July, and have evidently deciding to reverse their decision with this trade. After an All-Star AHL season with 69 points in 66 games (and 11 more points in 11 playoff games), a season which included his first NHL game as a callup, Abbott took a considerable step back this ...

Toronto Maple Leafs News, Opinion & Analysis
Introduction
Join our community of die-hard Leaf aficionados; let our writers—and commentors—increase your knowledge; learn more about hockey and your favourite team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Founded on September 3rd, 2008, Maple Leafs Hot Stove (MLHS) offers high-level and wide-ranging Leaf coverage: daily news, opinion, analysis and inside information concerning all thingsToronto Maple Leafs.

With nearly 3,000,000 annual visits, Maple Leafs Hot Stove is the largest independent Toronto Maple Leafs focused website/blog and one of the largest single team sports blogs the internet.

The site was founded by managing editor Alec Brownscombe, editor of the 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 Maple Leafs Annuals.  Alex Tran, Garrett Bauman, Matt Mistele, Mislav Jantoljak, Nikhil Daljeet, Anthony Petrielli, Michael Stephens and Declan Kerin contribute their .02 as feature bloggers.

Writers Garrett Bauman, Alex Tran, Nikhil Daljeet and Michael Stephens joined Brownscombe among the site’s founding fathers in 2008. In 2011, MLHS joined forces with Declan Kerin, previously ofLeafsNews.com, to create what the readers see here on MLHS.com today.

Also in 2011, the site introduced writer Anthony Petrielli as a regular columnist. Petrielli has been writing the well-knownMonday Leafs Notebook for several years running.  The Notebook is deeply thorough inspection of the week’s games and other goings-on in Leafland.

The site has become renowned for its fervent Leafs fan community and insightful writers. Its staples include the emotionally-unbalanced Game Day Threads, its Game in 10 post-game breakdownsweekly Leafs notebooks, and recently-introduced Maple Leaf Hangout video webshow. Its writers also conduct a summer interview series with Maple Leafs management and coaches, where MLHS has become known for asking the right questions and engaging Leaf brass in high-level hockey discourse on the topics most pressing to Leafs fans. The interviews provide great insight into how the organization is run and an insightful peek into the minds of those making the decisions in the Leaf front office.

All Leafs fans (and respectful rival fans) are encouraged to join in on the discussion on our forums and acquaint themselves with the site’s many passionate fans and writers.

MLHS has been cited by: The Globe & Mail, The National Post, The Toronto Star, USA Today, Yahoo! Sports, NBC Sports, TSN, Sportsnet, Grantland and many more.

Testimonials

"It was a short 3 yrs ago when I came across MLHS on the recommendation of my son. I haven’t looked back. Frankly it’s become something of an obsession but one that has been nothing but pure enjoyment.  The first thing I noticed was MLHS wasn’t simply a hockey blog with a comment board. It a real community and I can safely say I’ve developed friendships here that will last a lifetime. The second thing and perhaps the most important is the dedication of the owners to provide the very best experience they can for all like minded Leafs fans looking to stay informed about our team. Alec and Declan are die hard fans whose sole objective is to provide the very best Leafs site on the web for its members and believe me they don’t disappoint. MLHS is like a a five star restaurant and I highly recommend this site if you’re looking for the very best internet experience in Leafs Nation."
-Burtonboy

"MLHS is the definitive site for any true Leafs fan. It is not only insightful but thoroughly entertaining. Breaking news items seem to be announced on this site before others. The writers are outstanding and very committed to bringing out not only the story but the excellence around the things that matter. Posters are very knowledgeable and have created a sense of MLHS family and community. Many have been on the site for years yet openly welcome new participants. We each get to know a bit about others as well as their views on the team; what they would do to improve it (trade talk etc) and most of all what drives them as Leafs fans. It is the best Leafs site to which no others come close."
- CanuckintheUK

"MLHS provides some of the most balanced analysis of the Toronto Maple Leafs on the net. The writers contribute a high level of insight about the game that helps fuel a community of well informed diehard fans. Greatest Leafs fan site around, one I am very proud to say I am a part of.”
Dangle_My_Berries

"Since 2008, I have had the pleasure of coming to MLHS regularly and hanging out with the best group of people you could ever ask for on the internet. We started out small, with just a few people, but now are welcoming more and more each day. Easily the best Maple Leafs site going.”
Jordan

"The single best Leafs Fan site today! Lively discussions, debates, lots of fun, and very insightful writers. When you think you know everything there is to know about the Leafs, joining MLHS shows you there is still far more to learn. Everybody knows so much about the greatest game on earth and the centre of the hockey universe especially. Never a dull moment and everyone is welcome whether new or a long time member of the site. We love our Leafs and we never get enough of them!”
