With a camera in your pocket, everyone can be a photographer … but what about taking images from space? Image quality is increasingly important – this satellite is outfitted with a camera so accurate it can discern the make of a car, advanced star trackers to ensure precision pointing, and antennas that share the collected information back to Earth. Learn more about this new bird’s capabilities. http://lmt.co/2cKXeeK

Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine! NASA ads more time to IRIS’s mission so it can continue to analyze the sun’s dazzling atmosphere. We built the orbiting observatory so scientists can get one of the closest views ever of how the sun works. #DYK IRIS has taken more than 24 million images or measurements since it first launched in 2013? More discoveries to come! http://lmt.co/2dclRQM

It's OSIRIS-REx launch day! The official launch window is 7:05 to 9:05 p.m. ET.

OSIRIS-REx Quick Facts:

• Distance to travel to Bennu: 509 million miles
• Total distance traveled for mission: 4.4 billion miles round trip
• As Bennu orbits around the sun at 61,300 mph, OSIRIS-REx will need to reach a point in the asteroid’s path at the exact same time as the asteroid, all while moving at the same speed and in the same direction.
• The Sample Return Capsule will reach a top speed of 27,700 mph as it comes through the Earth’s atmosphere. This is the second fastest man-made object to return to Earth as the Lockheed Martin-built Stardust capsule came back to Earth at 28,185 mph. http://lmt.co/2bWvwhc
