I see the Russians were considering space junk as a priority on the OPSEK station. No one can deny the utility of satellites, I do wonder why companies aren't investing in piggybacking projects on satellite platforms? You have a satellite tasked to communications, add bigger solar cells, and add cameras, you can monitor environmental changes, maybe provide traffic surveillance. Add a server, and your satellite becomes a data center. build in some more systems, your satellite becomes a backup, in case of a system failure on another venture satellite. You might even consider adding a human module or three, your satellite is now a station, offering services to other corporations, Value Adding I think you call it. Out of curiosity, if you deorbited a non operational satellite, an older one, how much money would you get? As a museum piece? If you were transporting passengers anyway, on a shuttle vehicle, it would be a back-loading exercise. It is sad that the future plan for space activities, hasn't included a space shuttle replacement, using the best of Buran and the Space Shuttle technologies, you would have quite a vehicle.
