The article mentions these being visible from space.  No.  That is a throw-back to the ludicrous "ancient alien" theories as shown on the History (of Unicorns) Channel. 

That detailed spider is, for example, about 50 meters long.  Could you tell what a marching band was spelling out on a football field from space?  From cruising altitude of a passenger jet?  From a private plane at 5,000 feet?  No, but you could from the grandstands-- and the area has plenty of rises within it, as well as being surrounded by hills.
