Between Two Ferns!!

"Mr. Galifianakis is unlikely to have treated Mr. Obama seriously, although Mr. Pfeiffer said even comedians tend to “behave” when they are interviewing the leader of the free world."
The president’s interview on “Between Two Ferns,” an online parody of celebrity interview shows, is an attempt to get young people to sign up for health insurance on the government’s website.

Water hot enough to kill germs is too hot for your skin, so if you're using hot water to wash your hands, you're really just wasting energy, according to this Vanderbilt researcher.

The United States wastes energy equal to the fuel demand of Barbados on a practice with no proven health benefit: washing hands in hot water rather than cool, a study says.

This is a fascinating look at studies that demonstrate rats' empathy for others. In one study, rats could choose between eating chocolate or freeing other rats that were restrained. They opted to help the other rats instead of eating.

The author of this piece notes, importantly, that rats bred for research are among the animals that aren't officially defined as "animals" under the Animal Welfare Act. That detail means that researchers aren't bound by the act's standards of humane treatment.
