On a rainy day Appalachian thru hikers entertain themselves by playing different "musical" instruments: buckets, air-cone panels and tracking poles. Guitar sometimes.
#ThruHikers are waiting for the weather in hikers hostel. Rainy days on #AppalachianTrail. #TrashBand

#Millinocket #Katahdin
Katahdin was closed due to the storm, we were waiting for two days in Millinocket. Once it cleaned up for a couple of hours, we all ran up and met at the top.
Damn, damn, damn, damn. If we knew, we would slow down. But at those time, when we jumped and had fun at Katahdin, it was impossible to realize that very soon it would be over. In a few moments, it would be over.
It's over.

Just came into the Wilderness and met a knew bunch of nice guys. Made an exception and stopped with everybody at the shelter. One girl got sick at night and I learned what was norovirus. Hope she finished later.
Amazing rehab at the lake shore, all excited and sad at the same time, the hike would end up in a couple of days. In the morning waking up by working loud, earth-shaking, non-visible, bulldozer. Hm, Wilderness...

Pine Ellis hostel in Andover, two days rest, shoes laundry, ski resort view in summer, old cars parade, Rangeley. Keep meeting the same person more and more often, the horrible one among the whole bunch the nicest guys from Georgia to Main. Just in every single hostel and around every single corner. I almost ran forward, but he flipped flopped and walked across. I hitched a bit further and stayed in bad&breakfast where the old lady, probably sick one, asked me what I did with her plate after having breakfast and wasn't happy with my answer "put it to the sink". She preferred to be sure that I took her plate, yeah, to Katahdin, rather than have a look at my ultralight tiny backpack.
Just a week to go to Katahdin, and I decided that I was surrounded by too many sick people - two! - and didn't know how to walk further. I did not come back to the trail, I did walk to the road.
The car approached and stopped. The old lady asked if I need ride to the trail. Nope, I did not. So where? No idea. She offered to bring me to Monson, but first breakfast with her husband. Yes.
So I found myself at the very beginning of famous 100-miles Wilderness.

#MahoosucTrail #MahoosucNotch #Shelburne #Gorham #Success #Newry
More swamps. First my shoes were getting brown, then my leg. Just one leg, which failed into swamp. The other was fine, still white. The last I wanted was to be at the well-known Mahoosuc Notch at the end of the day.
So I did. It was early to set a tent and it was late to walk through the rocks with no any flat square meter and no seeing the end.
So I walked and luckily finished the rocky valley till the twilights. But my leg still was with this stinky swamp mud, dry already, because there was no any water on my way to rinse it! So I used a lot of wipes before going into the tent.

Bad timing and sleeping at very tough and scary at night Webster Trail.
Next day I thought I planned perfectly. I climbed MtWashington in the afternoon. Just forget that it was Saturday! Crowds drove there on their cars by the road on the opposite slope!
Thanks someone who almost forced me to get my phone and take a few pictures of me at this famous mountain.
I end up at the hikers hostel at the end of Presidential Range. By non-written rules thru-hikers could do some job and stay in the lobby as all beds were booked long ago.
Then Gorham. another hikers hostel, and Chinese buffet with bottomless ice cream, as usual.

Staying in Rutland Hikers Hostel, learning about 12 Tribes Community, working about 15 minutes for staying, ice-cream trail magic, a ride for escaping bears, the toughest part of the entire Appalachian Trail.

Diner for hikers in the Church in Duncannon, lunch in McDonalds Walnutport out of the trail, trying to hitchhike back but stopped by a policeman because it was prohibited in Pensilvania.
I asked a policeman to bring me back to the trail because he did not let me to hitchhike. He agreed. I still was in doubt if I should go because it would be getting dark very soon. So I asked him if he knew the hostel in jail, which was mentioned in hikers book.
He did not. Moreover, he was not going to smile, and asked instead, why I wanted to go to jail. I answered “never mind, just drop me on the trail”. That how, said accidentally, I kept hiking in twilights in one of the rare places without any spot to set a tent because of high grass.
Then rehab in hikers hostel in Delaware Water Gap in church with a bit of volunteering, change a backpack again, crossing NJ/NY line, staying at Bear Mountain resort, and crossing the Hudson River.
Trail Angels took us to their house for selebrating 4th of July. No idea where are these photos.
