"Understanding how #bullying evolved may help us deal with it in modern society." Professor of Biological #Anthropology Barry Bogin on whether there an evolutionary purpose to bullying.
I once watched a dominant baboon walk purposefully toward several members of the troop to bully them with snarls, slaps and bites. Baboons are well-known bullies. They use actual and threatened violence to climb the social ladder and then to cement their status as the most dominant animal. Male baboons bully (biologists prefer “harass”) for dominance because they want first dibs on the tastiest foods and opportunities for mating.

A collaborative scheme aimed at improving the quality of sustainable and renewable energy in poorer countries has received a £1.3 million boost from the Department for International Development (DFID).

Loughborough University academics Dr Ed Brown and Dr Jon Cloke, from the Department of Geography, along with colleagues from Durham University, Edinburgh University and other UK institutions, this month secured the funding, spread over 18 months, to enable them to provide training, workshops and conferences which allow experts to exchange ideas about how to improve energy access in developing economies.

The new project, which begins in January, is being delivered by the UK Low Carbon Energy for Development Network (LCDEN) – a platform for academics, practitioners, policy-makers and private sector organisations to interact and cooperate on research for low-carbon development – and is part of a larger Government initiative known as the Transforming Energy Access (TEA) initiative.

I am a first year student and honestly everything is a blur. I feel like the staff is kind of ignorant. 1/10 of the staff is helpful and kind the rest seem to think the students are superhuman or something. I have already had a couple staff members mistreat me. I feel very left out. I have had a lot of mental breakdowns due to the work load thrown onto me. And some parts of the study systems are so flawed. But I have to continue and keep positive because i am here to attain a degree no matter what the price. The facilities are great nonetheless.

Simply the best 3 years of my life. So much more to offer than just your course (although that's very good too!) and there's so much to get involved in, particularly within the Students' Union. I don't ever want to leave!
