Before and After Pictures
~22 year old patient ~non smoker ~moderate coffee ☕️ drinker and has not seen a dentist in 3 years‼️
➡️Calculus or tartar is plaque that has hardened over time on your teeth. Tartar tends to form beneath the gum line which then causes the inflammation of the gum tissue “Periodontal Disease” Unlike plaque, which is a colourless film of bacteria tartar is a tenacious mineral buildup that’s fairly easy to see above the gum line.

➡️Most common sign of tartar is a yellow or brown colour on the teeth~ bad breath 😷 is also more prevalent.
➡️The only way to avoid tartar from building up is to properly brush and floss your teeth as well as routine visits to your dentist & hygienist. Once the tartar has formed, only your dental professionals can remove it. The process of removing it is referred to as scaling.

Left untreated, gum disease can lead to the loss of teeth and an increased risk of more serious diseases.
Poor oral health can aggrevate:
1️⃣Stroke --patients with adult periodontitis may have increased risk of stroke.
2️⃣Respiratory infections --dental plaque buildup creates a source of bacteria that can be inhaled into the lungs leading to pneumonia.
3️⃣Severe Osteopenia -- the severity of osteopenia has been connected to tooth loss in post-menopausal women
4️⃣Uncontrolled Diabetes -- chronic periodontal disease can disrupt diabetic control.
5️⃣Pre-Term or Low Birth weight Babies -- oral microbes can cross the placental barrier; exposing the fetus to infection. Women with advanced gum disease are more likely to give birth to an underweight baby.
6️⃣The bacteria in plaque can travel from the mouth to the lungs, causing infection or aggravating existing lung conditions
➡️Brush your Teeth 2️⃣✖️day ...if not more and see your dentist regularly!
Oral health is not only important to your appearance and sense of well-being, but also to your overall health.
