Passport interview. Not sure it really achieves much.
Post-interview outside the Passport Office! Yesterday myself and Libby took a trip to Leeds from Blyton for my mandatory Passport Interview. It is policy now that for a First Adult Passport you must attend a 20 minute interview at Her Majesty's Passport Office. Tired faces all round at 7am waiting for the train. We started the day at 5am awoken by Daisy Dog. I drove us via the motorways, which were surprisingly not congested, to...

Finding a good personal trainer with whom you are comfortable but still gives you the challenge you need is quite difficult. I was happy a couple of years ago when I found Shane Clarke, www.shaneclarke.co.uk.

Introduction
Amongst other things in my life I've been a local politician - I lost my seat in  May 2011; chair or member of many local groups, most recently the Chair of Scotter Junior Football Club and have worked for a long time in the IT sector. I also part own and run a driving school in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire.

I love all things techy and try to be an early adopter of the latest gadgets.

I am a contractor dealing with project management and implementation of accounting software, hence the number of check-ins from different places in the country.

My two children are growing to have a love of all things technical too, which makes me very proud. They also love American sports as I do, with hockey being the sport of choice. One day I may learn to ice skate.

I had a pleasant few days at the Park Plaza Amsterdam. It's a few minutes from the airport, but as I had a car it was easy to get to. Once the roadworks on the A9 have finished, it will be back to only 10 minutes to get there. I was upgraded to a Double Executive room from my original one. The room was on the 5th floor and was spacious, like I found most of the hotel. It has a separated toilet from the main bathroom. This was a surprise, but also a good idea if more than one person staying in the room. As an executive room, it had a desk, which had two work chairs rather than the usual one. The room had lots of storage in which was hidden the iron and iron board, safe and two Robes. The bed was very comfortable and I had a good sleep, the only drawback I found was the amount of noise from the corridor. I had breakfast each day, and as usual for a hotel breakfast, I didn't find it value for money. This was especially evident as the evening meal was very fairly priced. A good meal can easily be had for €20.

The Crowne Plaza Heathrow is my go to hotel around Heathrow. Although it's not part of the free transport route, as it's not on Bath road, I find the hotel good for what I need. Usually I am able to book a park and go rate, for the same price as the on airport parking. The biggest issue I find, is not the hotel but the Hotel Hoppa. Frequently the ticket machine isn't working and it is crowded. The hotel recognises my IHG membership tier by upgrading me to the executive Floor, with no club access, although they will sell me discounted club access if I require. I am usually just staying for the comfortable bed the night before a flight and so decline. The room is spacious, with iron, trouser press, refreshments, robes, slippers and a mini bar. Unlike their European counterparts the mini bar isn't included in the rate. As it is an executive room it also includes a desk and seating area. The desk is large with different electric points (EU, UK, USA). I find it very comfortable to work on. The leather chair is comfortable too. The king size bed is softer than I normally would like, but fine for a night or two. It has the usual IHG choice of hard or soft pillows, with a spare of each in the wardrobe. Bathroom ameneties are by Temple Spa and I find them pleasant. The shower has reasonable pressure but as normal for a hotel the temperature fluctuates.

Stopped here for a meal, as a colleague was staying the hotel. The restaurant was bright and airy, with a modern feel. Lots of room for some.larger.tsbkes, but we had one of the booths. Food was very well presented and reasonably priced. Burger was cooked perfectly and the house salad was better than most I have experienced. Staff were excellent and a credit to the establishment.

A nice hotel in a quiet neighbourhood. 5 minutes walk from Matchlfinger Strasse underground station. My room was an executive room on the second floor, quite large and I had a complimentary soft drink mini bar for the duration of my stay. Only drawback I found with the room was the air conditioning didn't seem to make a difference to the temperature, regardless of setting. The room had a king bed, with split duvet (normal for Germany), a two seater sofa and a separate easy chair. It had a large desk without a glass surface, which is a pet hate of mine. The bathroom was small, but had a bath with a shower over it. Water pressure was good, but sometimes the temperature struggled. There was an iron attached to the Corby trouser press, which meant it was a smaller than usual board but perfectly adequate. I only ate at the Lobby bar and the food was tasty and very reasonably priced for a hotel. I didn't take up the offer of breakfast. Service throughout the hotel was top notch and always delivered with a smile, something I have found missing at other hotels.

Check-in took longer than expected as we were served by a trainee, which was no problem, but would have thought there would have been some assistance for her. The booking for the night was ok, but she couldn't seem to find the points stay that it preceded. After some time she assured us that we would have the same rooms and everything was OK. Next morning our keys stopped working as they were set for us to check out and our rooms assigned to other people. A quick visit to reception sorted this. The room is a reasonable size, and the bed seems comfortable. Some basic amenities are available, such as Prija toiletries, water, a trouser press and an iron. When I originally came to the room, the iron was missing. However, I requested one from reception and it came very quickly. The hotel WiFi has poor speeds, but 4g reception is good so it didn't affect me. However, there are only 2 sockets for use, neither of which are near the bed. They are both located next to the desk, which would be helpful for working. The desk doesn't have a glass surface, which means you can use a mouse.

Situated just off junction 5 of the M74, this is a prime location for both Motherwell and Hamilton and has easy access to Glasgow. I stopped for just one night and it was a pleasant experience. Next door is a restaurant, but the hotel also offers a selection of food cooked on the premises. My room was a family room and had a desk, double bed and also a sofa bed. The wardrobe is just a rail, but more than adequate. The bed was more than comfortable for one night and I always like the fact that Holiday Inn give you a choice of firm or soft pillows. I like a firm pillow and so make sure that's my side. Only downside for the room was the wall light in the picture above didn't work and this made the room slightly dark. The bathroom was the standard size for a Holiday Inn Express, with the shared door between the toilet and the main bathroom area. The sink and mirror configuration I always find interesting and very useful. The value for money of the hotel was very high. The room, including breakfast, was only £70. Breakfast was OK, with a limited hot selection and a continental option too.
