The different types of honey and why its better for you than sugar #beekeeping
By contrast, refined sugar, and that includes the granulated, raw, and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) varieties, is empty calories, containing neither the minerals nor the antioxidants that are intrinsic to honey. Fifty years ago the presence of sugar in food was unusual, a special treat, and most of the time appeared in desserts. Not

My advice for new beekeepers #beekeeping
With April comes the inevitable question, “What advice would you give a new beekeeper?” I seriously hate this question, mostly because it is fraught with undertones of philosophy. But once again, I will attempt an answer. Please don’t write bac [...]

Three Good Uses for the Queen Excluder #beekeeping
In a tree there is no queen excluder.  Bees in the wild build where they want to and the queen is free to wander in the comb and lay where it suits her.  However, humans are always wanting to bend nature to meet their conveni...

I gladly add my impressions/review of your site. Please understand I have over committed on way to many social sites currently existing on the internet - a case of not wanting to miss anything and too little time to respond to the many interesting sites. I do follow your activity, because of being the other side of the world my immediate activity in bee keeping is 180 deg. out-of-phase (climate wise). You folks live in a "bee haven" as far as I am concerned (spent some years in N. Island) and from an Ag. sense practice "livestock + farming" in a responsible manner. We have much to learn from you and in my opinion I hope you do not follow beekeeping as is currently carried out in the USA - so I refrain from, or cautious in adding comments. Like my own type of beekeeping management techniques - I observe, listen and smell my hive with as little intrusive action as possible. Keep up your good work. We need to know what is happening the other side of the world, because we are all learning something new every day, especially when it comes to BEES. Best regards - Richard Soundy (ex Patamohohe (sp?)

As a Swedish beekeper I teally enjoy listening to your podcast, it´s nice to hear whats going on on the other side of the globe when I´m doing other things in my hives, it actually makes it easier for me to plan ahead, not forgetting things that need to be done in advance. A lot of informative topics and good information too, plus a big piece of humor that makes it even moore fun to listen to. Keep up the good work! Greetings from Johan in Skane, the southern part of Sweden.

I rely on Gary's mesh board bases to keep tabs on the varroa mites. I have tried others but none work as well as his. Because he is a practicing beekeeper who makes sure his designs are really functional. He promotes workable products. He is also very helpful and able to suggest solutions to problems especially when I first started beekeeping he answered my questions. Kiwimana keeps me in touch. Thanks Gary and Margaret.

I would like to thank Gary & Maggi of Kiwimana Beekeeping Supplies for the excellent job they are doing at promoting beekeepers and the art of bee keeping. Their pod-castes and use of Goole+'s HangOut to connect beekeepers around the world is inspirational.

A very informative and well presented site. The information is both varied and international with links to many other sites of the same interest.
Great coffee and great food, the staff are always nice and friendly. Just what every cafe in Auckland should be like. Watch out for the dead guy under the floor boards :)
