Is it remotely possible that any liberals at all, even one, will see this for what it is? D. Trump’s proposed military spending increase isn’t huge. But it serves a huge political dual purpose.
(1) It lures liberals into reflexive hostility toward the military, when the officer corps is filled with smart, fact-using professionals who already sympathize with democrats over matters of science, energy, transparency race relations, and concern over Russia.

(2) It provides dogma cover for when DT initiates an Erdogan-style purge of the Officer Corps (because of #1). He can claim “I’m boosting the budget! That means I’m pro military! These guys I am firing are all dead weight, ‘deep state’ bureaucrats preventing a lean-mean military!”

Are you liberals really so dumb that you’ll fall for this? When the Union’s best chance in this phase of Civil War will be to recruit thousands of somewhat-liberal, retired colonels to run in every red state assembly district in America? The women and men in uniform may yet be our last-best hope. Any lefty who spurns them is a fool and a tool.

As a candidate in the 2016 election, Trump decried Obama's use of executive orders.. But that is virtually ALL that DT has done in 100 days. Dig it. Obama faced a Congress held by the laziest and most dogmatic opposing party in US history. Hence an excuse. Today the GOP controls every branch of government and every single Washington lever of power. Every one, as they did from 2001-2007, when the GOP reign was the laziest in the history of the republic, not even acting on their declared desires. And if Trump can’t get anything passed, who is to blame?

Interesting proposal
Tax reform? If "reform" means wanting to simplify the system so it is no longer a 10,000 rule monstrosity, I have long offered an absolutely guaranteed way to do it. The non-partisan method is technical, using computer optimization. But the "No-Losers" method not only can work... it works almost by definition..

In contrast the Trump "reform" has one aim. In the 1980s and again in the 2000s, "supply side" tax cuts poured wealth from our carotid arteries into open oligarch maws without once, ever, at all, even one time, having the predicted outcomes. The effect of every single clause in Trump's proposal is to enhance wealth disparities far beyond those of 1789 France.

Nothing so well proves the stunning stupidity of the neo-feudal lords, that they think this has any logical conclusion, other than tumbrels.

"Our problem is not Trump Derangement Syndrome; our problem is Deranged Trump Self-Delusion. This is the habit of willfully substituting, as a motive for Trump’s latest action, a conventional political or geostrategic ambition, rather than recognizing the action as the daily spasm of narcissistic gratification and episodic vanity that it truly is…

There is, perhaps, something not exactly reassuring but in its way tolerable about this delusion. It explains the real reason for the sudden willingness to imagine that Trump is capable of being “Presidential.” People who have acts and actions that add up to some coherent plan—or even to an evil scheme—tend to have an ideology. It possesses them, or they are possessed by it. With Trump, it is perfectly clear that he only has a series of episodic wounds and reactions—it’s all fears and fits."
