The Ifs
By Stasi Eldredge

Our life of faith is uncertain, but we can be expectant of good. Because we belong to God, we can rest in knowing his promises to us are true and he is faithful. It’s not a question of if God is going to show up but how and when. It is not a question of if he is going to move on our behalf but how he will. It isn’t even a question of if he is going to continue pursuing and wooing us deeper into his heart filled with affection for us but if we will recognize him. We can live with joyful uncertainty and expectancy. There are no ifs with God. The only ifs relate to us.

If we trust him.

If we believe him.

If we ask him.

If we continue to ask him.

Happiness Is A Choice, So Let's ALL Choose It

Can you think of someone you know whom you'd describe as happy? Someone who is generally positive and upbeat, someone for whom a down day is rare? We all know someone like this. Isn't that someone you like to be around?

The truth is that this person's life has probably not been any easier than ours. They've probably had their fair share of setbacks and challenges. The difference is that they choose to be happy, regardless of their circumstances.

It's true that our personality type has a lot to do with our perceived level of happiness. A sanguine personality is sociable and carefree by nature, so feeling happy can happen without a lot of effort. A melancholy personality tends to be more serious and focused. So choosing to be happy needs to be an intentional act for many of us.

Regardless of our temperament or disposition, any of us can choose to be happy. For some people and in certain situations, that choice may require more work than for other people. But that doesn't change the fact that happiness is a choice. Let's choose it more often.
