Having fun, learning to let go, and not being afraid to cover up my paintings have become essential to my creative process. I always delight in mixing all sorts of materials in my paintings - some of my current favorite art supplies are acrylics, inks, pastels, oil paintsticks, watercolors, origami paper, paint pens, water-soluble pencils, vintage sheet music and wallpaper. xo #juliettecrane

So often painting for me becomes a way to resolve and clarify the things I see and feel around me. With every layer comes a deeper understanding of the story.

The best worst advice I've ever gotten was when someone told me not to be an artist. It was the greatest thing they could’ve said. In that one moment, I finally recognized I couldn’t not be an artist. And that was the beginning of me becoming a full-time artist and entrepreneur. I wrote a short essay about it all for this week's blog post. You can read it at http://www.juliettecrane.com/blog/.

Most of the time, my character looks nothing like it did when I started. It takes lots of trying different things to figure out her best posture, profile and facial gestures.
