demystifying, deploying and developing internet community & technology since 1986 (especially for musicians and the music industry).
first computer - commodore PET w/ 16K, tape drive and a non-membrane keyboard. first inspiration was about extending the game "fur trapper" until i ran out of space on the 5 min tape cassette.
stumbled onto the internet at UC Santa Cruz and between that, photography and band practice, reversed my schedule. began playing with the intersection of computers and social networks.
started encoding my bands' songs into Sun AU format. cool & fun, but the sound was (yuck).
internet music becomes viable, hallelujiah! start IUMA to spread the gospel using MPEG-2 on this new thing called the World Wide Web. get warner bros, geffen, teen beat and others online. do the first live music netcasts (yes, before that rolling stones mbone broadcast).
start Addicted To Noise (ATN), the first rock'n roll mag online and the first place to include sound samples with album reviews (hard to believe there was a time before that now).
start MediaCast, first company to specialize in Internet broadcasting. other than the great music, highlights were either first webcast from burning man, or netcasting jimmy carter.
the FezGuys are born, bringing internet audio enlightenment to the masses. have a cup of soup and celebrate!
back to basics, start chime to work one-on-one with bands, management, booking agencies, & clubs
the most amazing free music festival on the planet starts: hardly strictly bluegrass and i start getting more serious about video documentation, production and editing.
the FezGuys put out the definitive book on internet audio and exit stage left.
family time, simplify and settle down a bit.
Virtual Venues Network begins its long-term incubation.
-2009: killer interactive community rich web sites with PROD (madonna, bob dylan, george harrison, beastie boys, dave matthews band, phish, tom petty, ben harper, sheryl crow, mates of state, my chemical romance, guster, etc)
create Twittercasts with Moonalice and start the groundwork towards what is now the Moonalice Satellite broadcasting network pushing HTML5 video to web and mobile from nearly every live show.
TEDxSantaCruz begins. 2011: work with an amazing team to curate and produce the first event - a sell out success!
add my hat to the ring & join the board to contribute to the amazing work Little Kids Rock does every day
this quarter: still playing with new technologies and music communities - chickenfoot debuts new single on turntable.fm
and Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani and Mike Anthony hold some of the first artist hangouts on google+
