Taiwan Legalises Gay Marriage

An Asian first. I wonder how long it will take for the change in attitudes towards homosexuality that has occurred in so many developed countries to reach Australian politicians!

More teachers? More books? New schools? Deworming?

The data is in! In some places deworming wins hands down.
Studies show that an effective way to increase school attendance in developing nations isn't providing notebooks or building roofs for schoolhouses. It's deworming!

Google Music?

Magenta, a small team of AI researchers within Google Brain, the internet giant's central AI lab, aims to provide musicians with an entirely new range of tools for making music. Can't wait to learn more.

Universal Basic Income for the Kenyan Poor? Yes or No?

This is a question about public policy and ethics. I'm curious to learn what atheists in this community think about this large trial of a Universal Basic Income for those living well below the poverty line in Kenya.

GiveDirectly's activity is explained briefly in this DW video:
http://www.dw.com/en/kenya-money-for-the-poor/av-38760539

More detail on the trial is available here:
https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/3/6/14007230/kenya-basic-income-givedirectly-experiment-village

Is this trial a good idea? Yes or no?

Please provide reasons for your answer if you have time.

Universal Basic Income - Yes or No?

Given that, according to Oxfam, 8 men own more than 3.6 billion people do, and that increasing automation threatens many existing jobs, a universal basic income, especially for the most disadvantaged in poor countries, seems like a great idea to me. What do you think? Are programs like the one described below a good idea? Yes or no?

The link below goes to a post from +TheLifeYouCanSave that explains what's happening in the world's largest basic income trial. If you want to lend a hand, there's a donation link too.
