Everyone seems to want your email address and phone number these days. But giving them out can open you up to risks. Here's how to give some access without giving away too much.

Best coffee in Chennai. Excellent atmosphere. Unlike some coffee shops, The Brew Room does not offer take-away coffee. Staff are excellent, though more European in style than Indian, meaning they will leave you alone to enjoy your coffee and your company, computer, or newspaper. The Brew Room is not crowded at all before 11 a.m. but often quite busy during lunch. It is situated on the same property as Savera Hotel. Highly recommended.

Copper Chimney serves northern Indian food in a nice sit-down environment. Casual dress is perfectly fine, however. Both veg and meat items are great, and I have yet to order anything I don't like. Naan is good, but not amazing. Chicken dishes are very good. Service is fine. Highly recommended for dinner.

Nando's is a good option of lunch or dinner when you're feeling lazy and a little indulgent. This restaurant is a chain specializing in peri-peri roast chicken. It is not a good place for vegetarians. As to the side dishes, stick with cooked rather than raw foods. The coleslaw lacks bite. Corn holds up okay. Fries are decent to very good. Prices are expensive by Indian standards, but not high compared with Nando's in other countries. Dinner for two will be less than 1,200INR.

This shop is a tiny shack, but the food is fresh and hot. Kati Roll shop directly competes with Bayleaf's take-away kati roll window, but Kati Roll is better. Prices are inexpensive (90-150INR), and the menu is ample without being overwhelming. Check the specials board or ask the cashier for a recommendation. For veg, I like the vegetable jal frazie roll or paneer with green sauce (I forget the name). Drinks are fairly limited.

Kalpa Druma sells fabric and ready-made fabric goods, such as table cloths and pillow cases. It specializes in organic cotton. This store has multiple levels for different kinds of home fabrics, clothing fabric, and so forth. The shop is clean and modern. Sales staff are attentive but will also leave you alone if you tell them you're just browsing. It's a great place to buy gifts.

Expect a long menu of fruit juice and shake options, but for many to be unavailable due to seasonality or supply. The shop is clean with plenty of seats. The banana smoothie is never a bad idea and is one of a few options that will always be available.
