This was the view at Butchart Gardens, just north of Victoria, BC over the pond in the sunken garden area. This was taken in the first week of October, and I think that is the best time to visit as the colors in the garden are magnificent.

On a fall trip several years ago to the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, we were on a ferry to the coast during a spectacular sunset. This was a great way to start a wonderful vacation.

On this vacation, I got to say hello to four great-great-great grandparents and a special hello to a great-great-great-great grandfather. The latter was born in 1776 and was a veteran of the war of 1812. It was a pleasure to meet you Henry Liter.

Introduction
Living with my wife in Orange County, California. I am a locavore.  I grow many of my own fruits and veggies in my suburban backyard and the rest come from local farmers markets. I bake, cure, smoke and make many of my own condiments including mayo, mustard, catsup, and hot sauces. My hobbies include cooking, travel, baseball, running, wine, eating well and other good things that keep you healthy without being a certified health nut.
Bragging rights
I bake bread, cure my own bacon and make too many jams.

Voted one of the ten best tacos for the their al pastor tacos by the Orange County Register, the tacos do not disappoint. Sweet, spicy, succulent pork hugged by good corn tortillas. What else do you need? Maybe a good side of refried beans. All in all a great place for tacos.

A unique place that serves unique flavors of ice creams made in front of you with liquid nitrogen. Come and enjoy the unique flavors of ice creams but enjoy the show of them mixing your ice cream right in front of you. Its especially fun if you bring friends for a first time experience and watching their reaction.

This is the Chipotle of pizza restaurants where you choose your pizza by sauce, proteins and other toppings and it is baked and finished while you progress through the line. With the variety of toppings and sauces, you can have a different pizza on each visit. Its a thin crust pizza that can be shared but we each had our own and the price is lower than I expected. What set them apart is their incredible beer selection from the micro breweries from Southern California and beyond. The beer and pizza makes for a wonderful experience.

What a great little coffee shop and bakery! We visited on a busy, sunny and warm Saturday morning and enjoyed a pastry and wonderful coffee with all the others on the patio who stopped in for the same experience. Many people brought their dogs for even a more social experience. Its a great spot to spend a little quality time any morning.

Great place to get a flight of beer and chase it down with cheese or charcuterie. Update, their patio is great place to enjoy your beer or wine and nibbles on one of the many splendid Orange County evenings.

We celebrated my son's birthday at Opal wanting a casual and fun location with quality food and drink. Opal came recommended from two independent sources. The menu is large and that has its advantages and disadvantages. The drinks and service were good and all four of us ordered different main courses each with a different profile. While all were decent, none were special. I think if they reduced the menu size and concentrated on making fewer killer appetizers and entrees this place could be great. Go enjoy the cocktails and vibe, but don't expect too much from the food and you will have a good time.

We visited here as a part of our spring vacation. Looking for something other than chain restaurants we were guided to Table Six and we were not disappointed. We both sipped on finely made cocktails and shared a delicious mushroom flatbread and a warm homemade pretzel with two different cheese sauces. All was good. My only regret was not trying the Texas sheet cake dessert as the server indicated it was rather large and my wife and I already had too much to eat. Good food, good vibe, good choice.
