The First Computer Bug
On this date in 1947, the computer programmer Grace Hopper found that the computer she was using had stopped working because a moth had crawled into a relay, causing the relay to stop functioning.

She tapped the offending moth into her log book, and called the incident "finding a bug".

This, of course, is the origin of the terms bug, and debugging.
